In 1993 Maria and Felix, Iñaki and Nico Williams’ parents, paid people smugglers to take them from Ghana to Europe in the hope of securing a better life. Travelling across the Sahara desert, they were kicked out of their truck and had to cross the desert without food or water. Felix says he still has pain in the soles of his feet from walking across the burning sand to this day.
They walked for days before arriving in Melilla, a Spanish enclave. They were arrested on arrival for not having proper papers and were going to be sent back before a lawyer intervened. He told the parents to say they are from Liberia rather than Ghana. Liberia was at war and they could claim asylum as refugees. In Spain, the couple ended up in the Basque country where they were looked after by a priest from a local church. His name was Iñaki.
While Iñaki was a Spain U21 stalwart, and even played for the senior team, he went on to represent Ghana. Nico, his younger brother, just came off the bench for the country he calls home to set up the winner in the World Cup Final. 24 years old and he has both major trophies under his belt. Bless you, Maria and Felix, for making that journey. 🇪🇸
Wayne Rooney on the half-time show:
“My favourite bit of the half time show was when it finished… I like all of them artists but I thought it was crap.” 😂😂
@MumbaiCityFC Much love and gratitude💙
You depart having left an indelible mark in hearts of the Mumbai City faithful.
Thank you for everything, Phurba💙
I'll never forget how he screamed during 2023 semis, how he just sat on the side after the match and took it all in. No player had ever represented the average Mumbai fan than in that moment. Thank you for everything Phurba
