How much danger is Speaker in? Will he have to go?

1/ V senior Lab source tells me they don’t think he will, on basis govt (and payroll) won’t go for Speaker nor will Lab - so in end won’t lose support of majority of House

2/ Former Tory cabinet minister says they “doubt he’ll go at the moment” But adds “anger on the Conservative benches is intense”

Tells me: “Tory MPs backed him to be different from Bercow. And he’s done a Bercow. I hope it blows over. Maybe after the weekend will be better.”

3/ SNP obviously doubling down this morning.

Speaker has his work cut out in coming days not to lose the House. But sympathy too from some MPs who genuinely believe he was trying to do the right thing and not stoke more tensions for MPs over this difficult and divisive matter

The Kemi Badenoch stories seem very similar to the mid-late 1990s dismissal case of a prison governor by Michael Howard. In 1997 he was considered a front runner for the tory leadership. He came last after the case blew up post election.
