Some Conservative commentators want to cast child care as a “failure”.
Let’s look at data since 2021:
— Avg. prices paid: ⬇️ 32%
— New spaces: ⬆️ 168,226
— ELCC staff: ⬆️ 43,000
— Labour force participation (moms aged 25-54): ⬆️ 2.5ppts
More to do. But it’s working.

When I was living and working in Lima, I met an American who was working for international development who told me one of my favourite political quotes:
“Never take advice from a Kennedy.”
✨ Councillor @reecevanbreda of @SiouxLookoutON received the Emerging Municipal Leader Award for his leadership in tackling affordability and quality-of-life challenges in northern communities.
“The problem of missing people in Thunder Bay is not new, but it feels like we are at a tipping point,” Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa said in the Legislature. “It is time to come together to end this crisis because no more families should go through this.”

Sioux Lookout is a growing and progressive community. I have advocated for SL to be reinstated to the Northern Tax Credit and for our long promised Long-Term Care Beds. I will continue to be at the table to ensure that SL and Northwestern Ontario has a strong voice at the table.
It has been an honour of my life to be elected as Councillor of Sioux Lookout in 2022.
I am excited to announce that I am running for re-election this fall.
We’ve done lots of work since 2022 but there is still more work to be done!
No one cares about the intricacies of how government systems work, least of all people who need to access services.
Good on Sioux Lookout for funding system navigators right out of their municipal tax base.
I look forward to the efficiency & effectiveness report.

Kenora Jail: 105.5% capacity
Fort Frances Jail: 122.7% capacity
Thunder Bay Jail: 138.8% capacity
Also to note from this article: 80 percent of all inmates are awaiting trial.
NEW: Ontario's jails are overcrowded, overflowing, overcapacity and in a substantially worse state than they were just two years ago.
Data shows they now average 130% occupancy rate, with some touching 160 and 170%. #OnPoli

.@liberal_party delegates now debating electoral reform. Should we get rid of first past the post and move to proportional representation? Liberal delegates in Montreal say NO. Of course, Justin Trudeau promised this, then didn’t do it. #cdnpoli
@ColinDMello Sioux Lookout and many other smaller Northern municipalities have gotten rid of development fees years and even decades ago to try and spur housing in their communities-however housing remains a provincial jurisdiction.
Of the 195 countries covered by #FreedomInTheWorld, 54 experienced declines in political rights and civil liberties and only 35 registered improvements in 2025.
