#W23POPMUS I mostly agree with Wald’s assessment. It seems as though most music is now only consumed through recordings. People still go to concerts but that doesn’t count as live cover bands. The local music scene also gets ignored quite frequently which I think needs to change
@PriyanshGajjar0 This is an interesting point, I have to agree. Since the music was stolen and just covered, there really wouldn’t be any originality in it to make it it’s own.
@adentremont31 I agree. Those who performed schlock rock also had little to no connection to the African-American culture originally related to the music, definitely making it cultural theft.
#W23POPMUS I think this music was considered “schlock” because it was stolen from a specific culture and “redone” by white people with no connection to the culture the music originated from. I feel as though the music can still be valued by some, but disregarded by most.
@ryleemusic2011#W23POPMUS I completely agree!! Music tends to be a very important aspect in people’s lives, and I think Ray Charles allowing this vulnerability in his music really speaks/spoke to his listeners.
#W23POPMUS I think Ray Charles used a breaking voice in his music to create more depth and emotion. This type of technique definitely catches the listeners attention and could be one of many reasons Ray Charles was so successful.
@AlexanderButl3r Totally agree with this!! I wouldn’t have discovered my current music taste or identity without the help of music, mostly using spotify.
#W23POPMUS I don’t think people actually realize the impact streaming services have on personal identity. Music can greatly affect how we act, dress, and how we identify. Along with this, the increase in the amount of music and genres streamed help us discover ourselves daily.
@jeffreyahodder I definitely agree with your point about buying deluxe albums. Fanbases and industries themselves will make you feel terrible if you aren’t in possession of it I find. Basically stating if you don’t buy it you’re a fake fan.
#W23POPMUS Materialistic “false needs” are often created by todays music industries. I definitely think todays popular music is dumbed down. It can play on the radio and you can hum along without even noticing. I find music doesn’t get popular for meaning or lyrics anymore.
