I will never forgive the way so many people have turned on Jews and Israelis over the last few years.

Are all Jews or Israelis perfect? Of course not. Some are terrible people, just as there are terrible people in every race, religion, and nationality. But the way Jews have been singled out, demonised, and portrayed as the worst of the worst simply for defending their country is genuinely nauseating.

What troubles me most is how quickly it happened. Many of the same people who spoke endlessly about tolerance, diversity, and protecting minorities seemed to abandon those principles the moment Jews were involved.

If I meet a Jewish person who dislikes me for whatever reason, I will still defend their right to live in peace and be treated fairly. Principles only mean something when they're applied consistently, not just when it's convenient.

Jewish gay activist Meir Brauner has left Italy and returned to Israel, saying he no longer feels safe living openly as a Jew in Rome.

Brauner, deputy director of Keshet Italia, an Italian Jewish LGBTQ organization, says the atmosphere has deteriorated sharply since October 7. He claims many of his non-Jewish friends now refuse to speak to him while regularly posting anti-Israel content online.

His organization was barred from Rome Pride after refusing to sign a statement accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza.

He says that during last year's Pride march, activists screamed at Jewish participants that they did not believe October 7 had happened and threatened them with death.

Brauner now hides his Star of David necklace on public transport, avoids speaking Hebrew in public and worries people will see Hebrew on his phone.
