Man on D+ath Row for K+lling UNIOSUN final year Student for R+tuals now Hosting TikTok Live Sessions From Prison

A d+ath row inmate at the Ibara Custodial Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has been found operating active TikTok accounts, hosting livestreams, receiving monetary gifts and interacting freely with users despite being sentenced to d+ath for m¥rder.

Elijah Oyebode was convicted in 2019 for the m¥rder of Rofiat Adebisi, a final-year student of Osun State University, who was k+lled for r#tual purposes in 2016. During his trial, he denied involvement, but the court found him guilty based on evidence and sentenced him to d+ath by hanging.

A report by Premium Times revealed that Oyebode maintained at least two TikTok accounts, including one that reached Level 20 gifting status, indicating significant financial activity. He also allegedly created a fake account using the identity of TikTok host and activist Omolola Awoyele before admitting to it after being confronted.

During a TikTok livestream, Oyebode also claimed many inmates at the prison have access to mobile phones and the internet. He alleged that correctional officers help smuggle phones into the facility, while other officers seize the devices and demand money before returning them, exposing what he described as an illegal phone-smuggling and extortion network within the prison.

Language isn't just a transactional tool for official memos or job applications—it is logic, philosophy, character, and worldview.

Being fluent in French and English gives a child access to the room, but having a grounded cultural identity gives them something authentic to say once they get there. The globalized world respects individuals who bring a distinct identity to the table, not those who merely assimilate.

We don't need to choose between survival abroad and heritage at home. We can give them both.

When we teach our children indigenous languages alongside English, we aren't limiting their future—we are giving them a distinct identity and a cognitive edge that the rest of the world respects.

A few months ago, many people were upset that Google included Yoruba and Hausa in its AI language models while their own language wasn’t included. They argued it was marginalization because they understood that language representation matters.

Yet here we have a prominent celebrity publicly asking, “Who has speaking a Nigerian language helped?” That’s the kind of mindset that accelerates language loss.

Nigeria is a political state created in the 20th century. Yoruba civilization, language, and identity existed for centuries before it. My loyalty to my language isn’t dependent on whatever language the Nigerian government designates as official. Countries rise and fall. Borders change. Governments change. A people’s identity survives only if its people refuse to abandon it.

If the English, French, Chinese, Japanese, or Arabs had adopted this same mentality centuries ago, they wouldn’t have the languages they proudly speak today. Languages don’t survive by accident,they survive because each generation chooses to preserve them.

I am impressed by this. Not by their climbing or bypassing security.
