@AZPatriot1957@BNODesk That what you are insinuating is racist rhetoric. The photo only shows 6 people out of the 20 that were shot. There's no evidence so far that the shooter was Black, or that most of the party was.
@KagensNews @lookner I'm pretty sure their mayoral race is listed as non-partisan, but Dadeville did vote for Trump in 2020 by 12 points. It's a small relatively conservative town
@NO_JOE_and_HOE @BNODesk This happened in deep red Alabama. In a county that voted for Trump in 2020 by 43 points. In a small town of only 3,200 people. It doesn't get farther from Democratic policies much more than this.
@columbus7071@KatiePhang@MuellerSheWrote Not to excuse his actions or anything, because DeSantis could still be a good person and veto it. But the blame also goes to the legislature who drafted the bill and passed it with veto-proof Republican supermajorities. The only Republicans to vote against it were 4 House members
@columbus7071@KatiePhang@MuellerSheWrote Don't forget that this is a legislative bill that he will be signing. Both Republican-majority chambers had to pass this bill, he's just the final signature. Now if he tried to do this through an executive order or directive, then yeah it would be a scary abuse of power.
@GaryLaserFren@maschlaggy@DemocracyDocket 3. Millenials aren't just some kids who are going to discover economics and suddenly become conservative. They are full grown adults now with the oldest turning 42 this year. If they were going to take a hard right, there would be distinct signs by now.
@GaryLaserFren@maschlaggy@DemocracyDocket 1. It's not guaranteed that people will become more conservative. The leanings of age groups have always varied, we're just accustomed to Boomers/Silent getting more conservative with age.
2. Millenials were the oldest generation to experience shooter drills in school regularly
To recap this week's news: Donald Trump and Clarence Thomas were both accused of public corruption but it's okay because neither of them used a bullhorn so Tennessee expelled two black guys who want to stop the NRA from murdering children Texas forces people to give birth to.
@purblue @brandoninstl Driving through rural areas in south farm country & the Ozarks, I can say it feels the same way. Being gay, I will refuse to stop anywhere in the secluded small towns. The thought of my car breaking down in any of these places scares the shit out of me.
Here's a map of violent crime in Chicago over the last five years (left) and a map of mayoral election results by precint (right).
The areas hit hardest by violence voted for Brandon Johnson, who campaigned hard on alternatives to policing, instead of tough-on-crime Paul Vallas.
@EthanPKaiser @JMilesColeman This is why realignment will help us in the long run. Trading out the dying rural populations for highly educated suburbanites (that are recently more motivated to vote) is going to favor us in the balance of votes. As long as we actually invest in the right areas & campaign well
@richardmskinner@kkondik@eitanhersh Specifically the fringe white voters who only voted when Trump was on the ballot. They have always been oblivious to elections, especially non-pres ones. It doesn't help that Trump made some of them apathetic by pushing voter fraud (i.e."why bother voting if it's rigged anyway?")
@agro__sol @NWSSPC The north part is happening right now, with two long-tracking tornadoes on the ground right now (one in IA and one in IL). That's not a bust. This is projection for the rest of the night, which includes an overnight threat for us down south. Stop being ignorant please
@wxtwisted I'm about 30 minutes west of Rolla. The weather changed so quickly in a short amount of time. My hourly forecast wasn't projecting anything for a few hours up until maybe an hour ago
