@KnottownFarmer@MauriceDeasy@ArableSam I wonder in organics would ripening happen earlier with less fertility bit of disease etc , I cut spring beans/wheat 2nd week of Sept and it was drilled last week of April, strange year and all
has anyone grown an organic winter bean oat crop ? it would be very beneficial for the weed issue in some of my fields but I worry about ripening times and chocolate spot , I wud plough in the beans and ope pass oats on top
@KnottownFarmer hi Richard, what seed rates did u go with, I was thinking aiming for 20 bean ppm2, and near full rate of oats pressuring the crows will take their tax
@ArableSam@ruanejames0@CallansCows@tallon123niall@TaeSavesLives not sure about grain straw ratio pea haulm is fairly low compared to pea yield but wheat would be same as normal, I did sell a few acres as whole crop one year loads of bales but alot of pea loss in the process
@FarmerBarney@vaderstad thanks for reply. I'm organic aswell and was thinking it might be that. I have fym to spread on fields with 2 ft plus cover crops/ volunteer/ weeds. Will prob do the same.
@Matt3ngland hi matt how early do you start weeding. as in how many leaves . I've had mixed success with the tine weeder. think I might be leaving it too late
@DiarmuidSantry hi diarmuid. got it sorted in the end . think forward speed was too slow. don't grow spelt anymore. yield of grain was very low and hard to get milling quality.what was your fix
anyone got some advice on combine settings for spelt? Had some long straws getting into grain tank last year. sieves full open . concave wide and normal drum speed
