The people on TikTok sharing stories about crossing the desert are usually Igbo people. It reminds me of a conclusion I’ve reached over time: many of the negative things Igbos are stereotypically associated with, from child abuse and misogynistic behavior to ritual activities, drugs, and fake products, are more visible because Igbos are willing to expose and talk about wrongdoing rather than hide it.

Visibility does not necessarily mean that a group is the biggest participant or patronizer of a particular evil.

So far, there are areas where the popular perception has been challenged, including:

- Ritual activities
- Drug related activities

With time, I believe more of these stereotypes will be examined against actual evidence rather than assumptions based on who is more willing to expose or discuss them.
