.@davidsenra says Shopify CEO @tobi told him we're going to look back at 2026 as "the year that every single business in the world was up for grabs."
"That AI is coming for everything."
"And you're going to look back and realize that this is the year it should have been obvious that you could rebuild the AI-native version of whatever exists out there."
Mark Cuban just described the sharpest divide in the modern economy. And most people are already on the wrong side of it.
Cuban: “There’s two types of approaches to AI. Some people who use it so they don’t have to learn anything, and some people who use it so they have the opportunity to learn everything.”
Two sentences. The entire future of human capital compressed into a single binary.
The first group sees the most powerful knowledge infrastructure ever built and uses it to avoid thinking. They offload reasoning, skip the friction, and call it efficiency.
What they’re actually doing is hollowing out the one thing that can’t be replicated.
Their own cognition.
Cuban: “AI is a tool, it’s a way to learn, it’s a democratization of knowledge.”
For centuries, elite knowledge was locked behind institutions, geography, and capital. The right university. The right city. The right network.
Entire generations of potential buried because the information was never accessible.
That wall just came down permanently.
The second group understands what that actually means.
Same tool. Compressing decades of learning into months. Entire disciplines on demand.
Mental models that once required years of expensive education now available to anyone willing to ask the right questions.
The knowledge is democratized. The ambition is not.
That’s the divide Cuban is actually describing. Not technical literacy. Not access.
Pure cognitive initiative.
The first group is outsourcing their mind. The second is expanding it.
Atrophy doesn’t announce itself. It just arrives.
Google's former CEO Eric Schmidt on the data strategy behind the next hundred billion dollar companies:
He explains that he evaluates startup ideas by looking at 5-year growth trajectories and asking whether there's a more scalable strategy available.
Take a founder building an app they want to charge $10 for. @ericschmidt's challenge:
"Why not give it away for free and upsell users instead?"
But the real insight is his framework for predicting which companies will dominate — and it all comes down to data.
"5 years ago, I said publicly that the future will be apps that are on smartphones that use Google Maps, GPS, and do something useful. Now, what I should have said was Uber."
So what does he think will define the next wave of massive companies?
Systems built on Android and iOS, fast networks, and powerful machine learning, with a crucial data advantage:
"They're going to use the crowd to learn something."
He illustrates with this example:
Pay dermatologists $1 each to categorize skin samples. Feed that into a machine learning system. Then sell the diagnostic service back to them, because a system trained on thousands of experts will outperform any individual.
Schmidt summarizes the winning data strategy:
"You crowdsource information in, you learn it, and then you sell it. [This] is in my view a highly likely candidate for the next hundred billion dollar corporations."
The blueprint: Aggregate expert data at scale → train ML systems on that data → sell superior insights back to the market.
This is how the next generation of dominant companies will be built.

🚨Goldman Sachs dropped the AI exposure chart.
It shows which industries are most at risk:
— Highest automation + high labor cost → Software & Services, Comm Services.
— Lowest exposure → Energy, REITs.
Translation: AI eats white-collar work first, not blue-collar.

OpenAI JUST released how people are using chatgpt
each bar in this chart is a billion-dollar wedge if you build the right verticalized, trust-rich AI startup:
1/ tutoring + teaching (10.2%) - people want on-demand teachers more than almost anything else. a personal ai tutor that explains things your way, remembers your progress, and nudges you daily.
2/ how-to advice (8.5%) - this is consumer SaaS for micro-niches: “how to fix my resume,” “how to meal prep,” “how to set up my Shopify store.” every “how-to” is a wedge into a vertical AI agent.
3/ personal writing + editing (18% combined) - 8% of traffic is people asking AI to write emails, 10.6% is editing or critiquing text. this is demand for AI copilots inside every workflow tool: sales, legal, HR, PR.
4/ health, fitness, beauty, self-care (5.7%) - validated consumer wedge. people already trust AI with their bodies. AI trainers, AI nutritionists, AI skin coaches — with a human layer for accountability.
note: btw if you like seeing ideas/trends like this, you'll like @ideabrowser (free/paid plans)
5/ purchasable products (2.1%)- tiny % but huge monetization. people literally asking AI what to buy. the Amazon affiliate model gets reborn here. whoever builds the “AI-powered shopping layer” owns the new SEO.
6/ translation (4.5%)still unsolved. what people want isn’t raw translation, it’s contextual translation: tone, culture, slang. AI that doesn’t just translate but localizes your intent.
7/ computer programming (4.2%) - we know this, but it’s worth underlining: devs want copilots. the non-obvious play is vertical code copilots... Shopify dev copilot, Unreal Engine copilot, etc.
TLDR;
every bar is a behavior that people are already paying for elsewhere. translate those behaviors into vertical ai agents and startups.
the data doesn't lie.
Andrew Ng has been right about AI every single time.
Now, he’s made his boldest prediction yet:
“5 upcoming AI opportunities that could create more millionaires than anything before.”
Here’s what you need to know: 🧵
Claude 4 Sonnet is terrifyingly good.
But most people are using it like a basic chatbot.
I've used it to generate content, automate deep research, build apps, and more.
Here are 10 real ways to unlock its power:

LEAKED internal memo from CEO of Shopify @tobi around AI
10 quick takeaways i have after reading it:
1. a subtle but huge reframe: “hire an AI before you hire a human.”
2. AI is now a baseline expectation at shopify. hiring filters will probably favor ai-fluent candidates at shopify and other companies.
3. AI agents are now treated like teammates, not tools.
4. prompting is now a core skill. top performers will be top prompters.
5. AI usage is now measured. kinda wild. probably a business idea there to build the lattice for AI usage.
6. AI-first prototyping is the new standard. shipping speed will probably 10x even at a $100B company like Shopify.
7. org charts blur, headcount planning now includes bots, not just bodies.
8. AI literacy is the new coding literacy. prompting, contextualizing, or evaluating ai output is become mandatory.
9. AI is now a core layer in the software stack. not a plugin. not an add-on. ai sits beside infra, backend, frontend, and design. the best teams will be the ones who treat it like infrastructure.
10. tobi’s memo screams one thing: more impact per person. shopify is early to this, but i bet this will hit every major company over the next 12-24 months.
The biggest wealth transfer in history is coming.
By 2034, AI "agents" will:
• Replace 70% of office work (McKinsey)
• Add $7 trillion to the global economy (Goldman)
Most jobs will become obsolete.
Here's what you need to know (& how you should prepare)🧵
