If self-driving cars are 8x safer than human drivers and we refuse to deploy them because of one bad case, we are choosing to let hundreds of thousands of people die per year to protect our feelings about control.
Anthropic published a paper warning that Claude can now improve AI code 52x faster than a human and might soon build its own successor.
The paper, blog and safety guidelines were written with Claude's help.
It's fine.
If you are not sick, and if you do not suffer, it is not because you are lucky, but because the Lord calls you to participate in the suffering of others. You should be eyes for those who are blind, ears for those who are deaf, and feet for those who cannot walk. You must be an assistant to people with disabilities, those who cannot move themselves, so that the love of Christ is revealed in this ministry.

Today, the @CivilRights Division added 15 medical schools to its investigations into potential race discrimination in admissions. @TheJusticeDept is laser-focused on ensuring that merit—not race—determines who will join America’s next generation of doctors.

These divisions among the apostolic churches: let’s firmly hope and pray that as high as they may stand and as entrenched as they may be, they do not reach heaven.
"I am losing precious days. I am degenerating into a machine for making money. I am learning nothing in this trivial world of men. I must break away and get out into the mountains to learn the news."
— John Muir
@catholicpat It’s because confirmation has been confounded with graduation, in other words graduation from Catholicism. What was a sacrament of initiation connected with baptism has become a coming of age rite that signals a finish rather than a start.
@PeterDiamandis In law, the more efficiently the legal service is delivered, the greater the demand for the legal service. If AI enables the firm to write a better contract in half the time, costing the client half as much, demand for human lawyer time goes up, not down.
I've been the lone vote against budgets that exploded our debt past $39 Trilion. My Six Penny Plan is the answer both parties refuse to pass: cut six cents from every projected dollar for 5 years and balance the budget. The math works. The will to get it done is what's missing.
At mass here on Sunday evening, I was shocked when I looked behind me and saw every pew filled. The place was packed, and not with les vieux. 90% of the people at mass were 20-something Gen Z French natives, and they all looked like they'd just left a 90s Ralph Lauren sailing photo shoot. Good looking, slim, preppy, hip.
This is in fact the modal French Catholic, like in certain neighborhoods in New York.
The place isn't dead yet.
@PaulVanderKlay Paul— Your tightening/ loosening explanation was very helpful to me in making me reflect on the reasons for my own interest in Orthodoxy. I’d been exhausted by years of participation in a too-tight sector within RCC and was attracted by the lightness and relative looseness of EO.
In a new Stanford study, law professors by far preferred Gemini 2.5 Pro's responses over those written by their peers when they were unaware of who wrote the answers.
The greatest threat to America isn't invasion from abroad. It's deterioration from within. I'm not comfortable with a $1.5 trillion defense budget because money doesn't grow on trees.
