@NewYorker "People first declare themselves to be followers of Christ, and then assume that whatever they say or do merits the adjective 'Christian.'"

“Speaking of course just for myself, I have gained far more happiness from my refusal to buy a television set and a computer than from anything I have ever bought.“

Had 2 look up this @DavidDark tweet tonight after receiving an email from a former pastor that first referenced the #SBCreport and then #uvaldetx before he said “Today is not the time for political arguments and personal statements.” Then he signed his personal statement.

I would like to see the Venn diagram of Wendell Berry readers, Texans, and self-described evangelicals. Episcopalians are often fond of WB, but a baptist who is familiar with any of his essays, fiction, or, unsurprisingly, his poetry, is a rarity.
I’m reading Eugene Peterson’s letters to his son. This critique of evangelicalism stopped me in my tracks. Peterson wrote it after spending the day with pastors in Tyler, TX and visiting a large Christian bookstore.
Buckle up.
