@J5_Sports1 If you’re going to insult our institution, you might want to make sure you are using words you understand. I think you meant “an irrelevant program” not “irreverent”. If you’d like me to explain the difference to you, I’d be happy to. -love, a proud Ŧ alum
Parents that live in a state with a surplus deserve to attend an adequately funded and well-provisioned school. This falls on state leadership - not parents or ISD staff.
✋Raise your hand if you would like to know how much voucher bill HB 1 would cost ISDs in your #TxLege district.
Thanks to @EveryTxn & @IDRAedu, we know. And we're going to tell you. 🧵👇
You know what public school educators do in the course of their day?
They teach the TEKS - the curriculum mandated by the state. They complete mandated reading academies, STAAR prep, continuing education courses, and safety drills. They work to make sure that ALL students feel safe and equipped to learn, play, and explore. They try to squeeze in lunch and conference time to plan and build relationships with families.
Indoctrination? Sure, if you’re referring to the attempts to get kids to turn their homework in on time.
It’s time for those trying to sell the voucher plan that no one is buying to do so without slandering our educators.
This trustee is saying ENOUGH.
HOW DO LARGE CLASS SIZES AFFECT CLASSROOMS?
•Teachers have less time to support students individually and provide needed immediate feedback
•Fewer opportunities to build necessary connections
•Fewer enrichment activities
•MORE behavior issues
As ISDs adopt budgets & compensation for schools, I’m reminded of @GovAbbott Teacher Vacancy Task Report’s top recommendation: “Increase overall compensation and support strategic compensation strategies”. Credibility isn’t measured by a task force, but rather the response.
Think about this next time @GovAbbott offers any praise for Texas public school teachers...
Consider your most stressful day/week as a public school educator, then reflect on the following:
(1) Texas public school employees are tired, burned out, underappreciated, and many work in underresourced schools.
(2) Texas teachers busted their rears and sacrificed their own families by helping our students and communities endure a global pandemic.
THEN...
(3) Texas teachers were used as fodder as the Governor told voters they were "woke" and that they teach kids to "hate America."
AND...
(4) Texas ranks in the bottom 10 states in per-student funding.
(5) Texas' $32.7 billion surplus is the size of the budget of South Carolina.
FINALLY...
(6) Policymakers could not find it within themselves to provide teachers with any raise, nor could they find it within themselves to increase school funding...due to their insistence on tying funding to vouchers.
These people MUST be held accountable. The 2023/24 school year should not start until we: (a) increase teacher pay; and (b) increase school funding.
PERIOD.

You @GovAbbott are in a position to help our education system in Texas get better…YOU are in charge. Please fully fund education in Texas. Please talk to teachers…ask us what we need…we are here to speak with you and share our concerns…please give us a seat at the table!
Teachers should not be trained on how to ‘persevere’ and be ‘more resilient’. Those types of trainings are insulting! Instead, Admin should focus on removing tasks from a full teacher plate.
Teachers need SUPPORTS, MORE TIME, MORE MONEY, and to be treated like PROFESSIONALS.
👏 Wow. Just wow. This op-Ed from Amarillo teacher Cecily Riesenberg should be the final word on vouchers and “school choice” in Texas. It won’t be, but it should be. It’s that good. 👏 #txed#txlege

“More than ever, teachers are underpaid and disrespected”
“Oh well, they should quit then”

Currently, the US is facing a STEEP shortage of teachers, with nearly 300,000 vacancies nationwide threatening to turn the education system on its head.
Well.. little delay. Smoke coming out of shot clock on the Childress end (East bucket) is this an indication of what the Bobcats are about to do #UILState
