@garfieldsaveus I agree that many of the shots were purposely done to make the viewer feel as if they are directly in the scene being spoken to, trying to immerse us in the neighborhood and all its characters and put ourselves in their shoes
@senorproject Heat was a very interesting story telling device. I also agree that many movies today would shy away from prominently featuring racial slurs and nudity
start from small misunderstandings but during the climax the problem escalates to assault, police brutality, the death of Radio Raheem, and a riot. The complicated situation shows the situation isn’t as simple as many may believe
#MEDIA180SP1D06 Some things that stood out to me while watching ‘Do the Right Thing’ was the use of bright coloring, close ups, and blunt, brazen dialogue. The major themes of the movie is racial tensions and how quickly they can escalate. In the beginning most racial conflicts
@senorproject Adding humor to make ads more appealing and memorable is a great tactic used here. The humor helps people remember facts stated in the ad because they were punctuated by jokes.
@garfieldsaveus Duolingo’s ability to target younger audiences makes them more memorable and familiar to them in contrast to their competitors like Rosetta Stone and Memrise. Their wacky mascot, Duo, makes their audience voluntarily follow them on social media and broaden their platform.
Although we spoke about ethnic minorities in class, the disabled community also faces similar issues with perception not only in the media but in society as well.
#MEDIA180SP1D06 The target audience for this ad is disabled people who are often infantilized by abled people and also abled people who need to challenge their perception of disabled people

@Shariar39 i think things such as the filter bubble limits how many communities a social media post reaches but it is still more accessible than cable. Cable may provide a broader but more limited access to community since it is for general audiences and not specific
@_anitaaaaa3 Not being free was a massive limitation of cable. If you did not pay for cable, you would be limited to only local channels and wouldn’t get national news or popular shows. This is definitely an example of disruption between different socioeconomic classes.

I believe in some ways cable networks has made the sense of community better. Many major events such as the national news, sports, or award shows were broadcasted and watched by millions simultaneously. However with the rise of streaming ppl aren’t doing that
@honestjernie these are great points bc many people in the current era gets their news from social media rather than network news. for many social media is a more efficient way to get news quickly however a downside to this is inaccurate information may get spread just as fast.

I don’t believe that the FCC should regulate the internet. There may be many downsides to hearing so many unfiltered thoughts of others but it also amplifies voices you may have never heard before due to censorship or drowned out by more powerful/popular speakers
