An exercise in why British conservatism is so much more intellectually coherent and based in fact than US conservatism. Tucker calmly dismantled at every point. We do not want US style conservatism here
If the UK government want to celebrate its economic record (and on inflation, and jobs it has quite a poor story to tell) then the jump in the per capita GDP growth rate compared to what preceded it is quite stark. Canada is also on a similar journey as net migration aggregates come down in both countries.
The response to this is absolutely insane btw
Pensioners are being asked to have their state pension go up at a slightly slower rate than it already does, and in return they’ll get free social care
And they’re still complaining!
We currently have an NHS w/ the 2nd highest departmental budget (ie taxpayer money) & is only ‘affordable’ because it rations access to care. We also have some pretty poor outcomes vs other countries
A National Care Service paid by general tax is not the answer to social care
Vladimir Putin is preparing to escalate his war against Ukraine, which includes attacks on Kyiv’s allies in Europe.
Western intelligence officials believe the Russian leader is laying the ground for a “stealth mobilisation” after elections this weekend, in which thousands of Russians could be drafted.

Sources close to the Kremlin say that, after several weeks of consideration over the summer, Russia’s president seems to have chosen to escalate his conflict. What might that entail? https://t.co/CqjTdbYxuS
Spanish media have given much coverage to this; all but ignored in the London media which know Welsh or Scottish independence, or Irish unification, are unlikely to happen for a long time, if at all. The foreign press reading a story through its own lens.

There's a lot of evidence now on Gove/Cummings DfE-era reforms, where you have to say that they were right, & the unions/the Left/"the Blob" were wrong.
Cameron-Osborne-Clegg was a calamitous era. The macro-economic strategy sowed the seeds of most of the problems we face today (low investment, low-productivity, cheap labour Deliveroo economy with a pumped housing market & crap/creaking public realm, over-exposed to inflationary/deglobalisation era).
But on schooling, the results speak for themselves (while also demonstrating that education isn't a panacea for positive growth/generational outcomes?)
New PISA data out- and a huge success story. England is now a top-10 education system in the world. Outside of Asia, one of the highest.
New PISA 2025 results:
Science: 8th in the world, up from 13th
Reading: 9th, up from 13th
Maths: 10th, up from 11th.
While much of the OECD has gone backwards, England has has held its ground while most of the world has gone backwards. Huge achievement by school staff.
New PISA data out
England is now top ten in all three areas (reading, maths, science) and the second highest performing country outside of east Asia (after Estonia).
This is a huge public policy success.
