Only reason i have ever heard of Cape Verde was in the 1980's and early 90's before Apartheid ended, South African Airways was banned from flying over many African countries thus they were forced to re fuel in Cape Verde on their longer flights. 36 SAA flights a week were utilizing it as a fueling stop
