@Jocheved4 @amabphrodite I agree. Some of the people I knew in college who were least well suited for transition were neurotic and fairly sheltered females. Not the kind of people who would buy T in an unmarked vial from some guy at a gym. Which would have been a good thing.

Most female detransitioners blame themselves, too. Twitter influencers aren't representative.

@amabphrodite You're exactly right that part of the problem is people with autism and other mental illnesses not being good at assessing whether transition will help them. Maybe that's why doctors have a responsibility beyond informed consent.

@NancyPh32842797 @theblaze What damage is permanent "after a few weeks"? I've never seen anything to indicate very short-term puberty blockers (or HRT) have long-term effects.

The bigger concerns are that PBs are taken for too long, and kids on them almost never get off the medical pathway to transition.

@FrednGinger3 @datadriven_tdoc That seems right to me, based on my friends' accounts. I never get harassed, no matter where I go! It's kind of insulting- I don't think I'm unattractive. Literally never happens, even when it's happening to women around me. Who knows.

@datadriven_tdoc Verbal harassment is a bit different, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was quite a bit higher for nonpassing trans women even compared to cis women. But verbal harassment also has a lot to do with where you hang out.

@datadriven_tdoc Hate crimes are extremely uncommon, in the grand scheme of things. But it's not just hate crimes- it's any targeted violence directed at strangers. Most violence is either interpersonal or opportunistic.
