@DaJokersGirl @steelersfanOG@NotThatKaren Yeah that is a bit weird - I also don’t understand why either of you couldn’t have talked to each other about the issue like adults instead of this passive aggressive crap. Both of you are strange. The FA also seems to fail at her job. Just all around suckage
Helmets and hi-viz for cyclists are much like parachutes for airplane passengers and mandatory swim vests for swimming in a shark tank.
If anything, it should be the LAST resort if you are really concerned about people's safety. Fight for something else first!
Imagine if we had designed children’s playgrounds in ways that were unnecessarily dangerous for kids, but instead of fixing the unsafe design, we mandated that kids wear protective gear like helmets.
That’s basically what adult bike #helmetlaws are.
Design safe infrastructure.
"Police said the woman, Elaine Herzberg, had not been using a pedestrian crossing. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died."
...not using a pedestrian crossing...
And so it begins...
And we know where this leads...
Welcome to the new world.

The news many of us feared (but knew) would come.
The REAL TRAGEDY is that all optimists in government, business and academia took this as a cold CALCULATED RISK by endorsing pilots in cities.
What happened with "First, do no harm"?

Just in case there are still decision-makers out there who do not get which means of tranport should be top priority in their city, a couple of arrows have been added to this diagram on carbon emission and space consumption from @ElliotFishman
The built environment around this whole video (as well as the chosen solution) should help explain why Florida is perennial #1 state for pedestrian fatalities. https://t.co/bPd3Zx1Q3g
@transitmiami@MyFDOT_Miami Yea what happened is awful but the bridge ignores that elephant in the room of the dangers of the stroad. And don’t tell me it would cost too much. Miami is spending close to a billion on the 395 “signature” bridge for drivers @StrongTowns
Can't help but cringe as the national news describes SW 8th Street as a "major highway."
No. That's just another South Florida "stroad" courtesy of @MyFDOT_Miami. Placeless. Souless. Congested.

@NickPBTPA @PalmBeachTPA Looks like it’s built as a race track. Measuring actual vehicle speeds would be interesting. Why not just build a protected cycle track with all that available space?
@spotmaticfan @slowottawa This is the argument in a lot of neighborhoods in Florida. They want to use the right to the easement to park their party guests and think it’ll attract criminals. Who would walk instead of drive to rob them. Or walk on the road. I don’t get their logic
