Baku is what I imagine a place like Ankara or Bursa to be like.
Hell, I'm drinking ayran before tucking into an Iskender kebab, and I'm sure I'm in the wrong country.
Actually quite impressed that I went through £18 of phone credit on my UK account just to check any phone messages that I've missed in the past 9 days.
(Top tip: an eSim like Airalo is your friend)
Initial impressions of Baku:
- It's richer than Tbilisi or Yerevan.
- It's what I imagine a more Russian speaking version of Turkey or Iran is like
- They didn't seem bothered at passport control that I was in Yerevan last week.
They have minibuses in Tbilisi which are a bit like the small buses you get in London.
Anyway, I'm on one and it's standing room only. It feels like a WFC away day on Redwing Coaches from the 1990s
One thing I've noticed going around these ex-USSR countries.
They are much more distrusting of you at passport control when you're leaving than when you arrive through them
😰 "It's going to be exhausting trying to run in this... it's absolutely boiling!"
