To the Luos who seek to appease tribalists,
Your so-called “wokeness” is not unprecedented.
Tom Mboya did the same in the 1960s, aligning himself with the architects of Kikuyu nationalism.
Yet, he was assassinated by the very forces he had sought to accommodate.
When he was killed, no high-ranking Kikuyu government official, except for JM Kariuki, attended his funeral.
There was no message of condolence from President Jomo Kenyatta, the man who had once used Mboya to weaken Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s influence in Nyanza.
In life, Mboya preached the vision of "Project Kenya." In death, he was remembered not as a national hero, but as a Luo martyr, abandoned by those he had served.
History has its lessons. Learn from them.
