I have long called for ICE’s Adelanto detention facility to be closed because of chronic failures to treat the individuals imprisoned there with basic dignity. During my latest visit to the facility just a few weeks ago, I again heard stories from innocent immigrants who had endured tremendously difficult circumstances. I was particularly concerned by inattentive and even negligent care. There are serious questions about detainees’ access to timely medical care and medical records. This hunger strike is just further proof that ICE cannot provide basic services and needs to close Adelanto. The failures at this facility are part of a broader pattern from ICE and CBP to dehumanize immigrants and terrorize our communities, which is why I am firmly opposed to any new funding until we see real accountability and reforms. https://t.co/pyjqlNVixw
