๐งต 2023 Year In Review:
๐ท 35,669 reports by
๐ด๏ธ 459 people
[1.3x the reports vs 2022!]
Leading to:
๐ 14.7k TLC 311 complaints
๐ฒ 10.7k (non-TLC) bike lane blocked 311 complaints
โ๏ธ 8.9k (non-TLC) illegal parking 311 complaints
Parking at Jones Beach is already subsidized: $10 per car, no matter how many people you've crammed inside.
But for 4 Manhattanites to make the same trip, it's $11.60 for 4 subway rides, $92 for 4 round-trip LIRR tickets, and another $11.60 for the return subway. That's $115.20.
So glad to report that this week, @ps70_q has begun closing my block to car traffic during pick-up and drop-off times. Iโve documented the insanity of drivers honking at children boarding for too long, and the block is already infinitely better (and safer) off.
Hey @dr_yusefsalaam, ๐ is what the only existing protected #bikeNYC lane in your district looks like on most days. Central Harlem deserves real, safe, dedicated bike infrastructure like other neighborhoods! Please ask @NYC_DOT to improve its design.

3/20 @ around 8:40 am right in front of beautiful city hall. Who under @nycmayor Adams watch is putting bicyclists' lives at risk by parking this tank here? @NYCBikeLanes
How is it possible that a driver arrested four times for driving without a license can still GET a license? How is it possible that people can keep driving despite eight speeding tickets and thousands of dollars in fines? Why does no one have an answer? https://t.co/TAhaYygGfw
Buckle in for this video of a German cyclist who reports 4000 illegally parked cars per year. Legend ๐ค come to nyc where you can report 40,000 if you did it full time ๐

The viral thing on German X rn is a docu about a weird, funny dressed, 18 yo who travels all over Germany to report illegaly parked cars. (4000 in 2023)
He doesn't get paid for this. It's just his hobby.
He calls himself "Chief complain sergeant" (yes it's one word in German)

All 70 feet of Third Avenue used to belong to cars and trucks.
After years of advocacy, everyone has a safer street โ dedicated bus and bike lanes + pedestrian safety upgrades make Third Avenue better for all who use it.
Great piece from @sebthedev:

There were about 14.7k submissions to Reported that were routed to the TLC.
These submissions go through different statuses before they can get resolved (closed). Here's how they net out as of Jan 1.
There's plenty of additional context that @richmintz@Choresh2@jehiah and others can add about this process.
But the main takeaway is that @nyctaxi is an extremely effective & professional agency that does a lot to hold drivers accountable for dangerous behavior. ๐
Unlike NYPD, the TLC is staffed by attorneys who will diligently review every single inbound 311 complaint and has the power to issue a summons to the driver/owner.
On the non-NYPD side: Some quick stats for TLC (taxi & Ubers, etc) submissions that were routed to TLC. As a reminder, if the vehicle's license is registered with the TLC then a 311 submission will be made by Reported, classified as a "consumer complaint" to the TLC to handle.
