There are two kinds of people in this world....
Old joke. Self-refuting the second you laugh at it.
It's also basically the operating system of American politics right now. 🧵
We just need immigrants who want to turn our Americanness up to 11. Right now both of these parties got it at like a 5 or 6.
The ideals in the Declaration? The best.
A Constitution meant to secure the blessings of liberty? Awesome.
We need citizens to live up to them, so our politicians are forced to.
@jbhenneman Ugh. More crackpot than edgy. Appreciate the effort from him though.
I'm more put out by the lack of widespread celebration of George Westinghouse.
@PhilWMagness@ConceptualJames If only the Greeks had left us myths or plays warning about the wisdom of exposing inconvenient infants...<stares in Oedipus>.
@PhilWMagness Maybe they should have just watched YouTube videos of Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, and Friedrich Hayek as well as read Wealth of Nations and A Theory of Moral Sentiment like any sane person obtains their economic knowledge.
Right? Right?!?!?

The enemy doesn't defeat you only by conquering you.
Sometimes he defeats you by teaching you what victory requires.

Madison supplies the structure: ambition must counteract ambition.
Tocqueville supplies the habits: citizens who still judge for themselves.
Enemies are real.
Coalitions are provisional.
Principles are not coalitions.
@PhilWMagness Phil, I already think we need to overturn Slaughter-House. You don't need to sell me on it
Side note: I have yet to hear a convincing argument that the Constitution grants an enumerated power over immigration.
So as someone who wanted to keep working and home life separate, it was difficult. I missed the detox driving in to and out from the office.
But you have to take mental breaks more st home. It cuts down on the stress associated with being in the place you workm At least, I needed that.
@PhilWMagness@megbasham My biggest issues with post-liberals ans Nat Cons is the constant drifting, their ignorance of personal agency, the binary thinking, and the unwillingness to believe that people deserve the right to make moral decisions without a gun to their head.

New essay runs it through Schmitt, Marcuse, Adam Smith's moral philosophy, and — I will not apologize for this — Bill & Ted.
"Be excellent to each other" holds up better than two centuries of political theory.
