This happened a decade ago but is still impressive today
After nearly seven years sitting in long-term storage in the Arizona desert, the iconic B-52H Stratofortress known as “Ghost Rider” accomplished a feat once thought impossible — becoming the first B-52 ever returned to active operational service after being officially retired. 🇺🇸✈️
The bomber had been preserved at a military aircraft storage facility before being selected to replace another B-52 that suffered extensive damage during a maintenance-related fire. The decision launched a remarkable restoration project that required engineers, maintainers, and specialists to carefully inspect, repair, and rebuild systems throughout the aircraft.
Among the most demanding tasks was reviving components that had endured years of inactivity under harsh desert conditions, including fuel, hydraulic, and electrical systems. The effort involved thousands of work hours and extensive testing to ensure the aircraft could safely return to the skies.
Against the odds, Ghost Rider successfully flew again, demonstrating not only the incredible resilience of the B-52 design but also the skill and determination of the Air Force personnel who brought it back to life.
Decades after entering service, the Stratofortress continues to defy expectations, proving that this legendary bomber remains a vital part of America’s airpower and a lasting symbol of endurance, innovation, and mission readiness.
Good day. The famous StuG III Asuf.G from Nordholz has been excavated and is on its way to the museum. It took almost a month, and the StuG's ammunition had to be removed and checked for any explosive surprises. All that remains is to wait for further discoveries. 1/2 #Tanks#WW2
