But the night he died, we were working the same shift, in different locations, in different forces, doing the same job; emergency response.

He made a choice I couldn’t. He was on the way back in for handover and he took the last emergency call, like so many of us have.

I couldn’t, I had a prisoner on board.

When I got home, I read what had happened.

The best of us, taken, just for doing his job.

A man gets into a car with a stick, drives hundreds of miles to brutally murder the beloved elderly matriarch of Reform UK.

The authorities offer no information, but if you ask questions they admonish you for “speculating”.

Reform MPs demanding security from the state are told to shut up and be grateful that “the police know where their house is” and the “direct telephone number to the police” to call if someone tries to murder them.

Reveal that the Speaker of the House has totally ignored letters from Reform MPs about their safety and he briefs the press that he’s “furious”, while failing to deny this.

If you go to lay flowers in memory of your friend you are “politicising” her murder.

If you push back against any of this, you are hounded to the ends of the earth by the Times, the Telegraph, the Daily Mail, the Guardian, the Mirror, and hundreds of crazed leftists online.

These, apparently, are the new rules for Nigel, for Reform MPs and all those in our movement.

In 1964 and 1965, Paul Simon lived at Dellow House off Cable Street in Stepney (East London). He stayed at flat 6 rented by Judith Piepe, a legendary social worker and central figure in the London folk scene.

His time in Dellow House was highly productive. While sharing a room with fellow folk singer Al Stewart, Simon wrote and honed several of his most famous songs, including "Homeward Bound" and "Kathy's Song".
