I write to you with my own hand ✍️ about a life I never chose, about a homeland that taught me pain before hope, and about years that passed like a punishment I never deserved.

Between the corners of my tent, beneath a blackened sky, surrounded by the terrifying roar of warplanes and the endless bombings, I live in a city reduced to ruins… Gaza, once full of life, is now a ghost town of rubble and sorrow.

I try to find myself amid this destruction… to understand how the flower of my youth withered here. What crime did I commit to deserve this much grief and deprivation? I’m a young man in my thirties. I’ve never tasted comfort. I’ve never boarded a plane, never sailed a ship, never traveled, never felt free or safe… and all of that simply because I was born in Gaza.

I admit… the flower of my youth has been burned. But what tears me apart even more is that I married my beloved Yara and brought two children into this nightmare.

Imad, my first child, is 4 and a half years old… he doesn’t know how to read or play. All he knows is fear, blood, and the sound of bombs. Every day he asks me: “When will this war end, Dad? When will I go to school?”

As for Adam, my second child, he is almost the same age as the war. He has known nothing in life but explosions, screams, and running toward the unknown. He was born into hell, raised in it, and has never tasted the sweetness of childhood.

Yes, maybe it was my mistake to bring them into this place, in this time, in this occupied land. But my heart longed for a better life… I didn’t know that the future would be even darker than the present.

In short… our life has been hell from the very beginning, simply because we were born in Gaza… because our homeland is under occupation.
