Almost all temples and Ganesha Pandals play these two all time great Kannada devotional songs “Jaya Gauri Jagadishwari” and “Natavara Gangadhara” across Karnataka. Most don’t know that S K Karim Khan wrote both the songs. Karnataka Ratna Karim Khan is one of the greatest film songwriters, folklorists, litterateurs and public speakers of 20th century Karnataka. He was half Pashtun and half Arab. His father migrated from Afghanistan to Sakleshpura in Hassan district of Karnataka in the late 19th century. Khan was born there. A school dropout, Khan went to jail during freedom struggle. A leading figure of Kannada cinema, Karnataka unification and literature, Khan remained a bachelor and died at the age of 106 in 2006. Unfortunately all his life, he was homeless. The famous 100 feet road in Indiranagara is named after Dr SK Karim Khan. #GaneshaFestival
