DIRCO, South Africa’s international relations ministry relies on foreign intelligence (one could assume that Iran, Qatar and Russia are in that axis) and cooperates closely with other national security bodies to shape their foreign policy and manage diplomatic missions.

Notably a former South African Air Force brigadier general Portia Anyamba, 59, was sentenced to six months in U.S. federal prison for acting as an unregistered foreign agent and making false statements regarding her foreign contacts.

In a text message intercepted by federal investigators, she told her references: "They are sensitive about foreign connections. So please don't mention anything about the embassy. The only work I listed was working at the gym, and nothing else."

While she did not “officially” work for the embassy, she was secretly taking directions and receiving cash payments from a South African State Security Agency (SSA) intelligence officer who was stationed at the embassy in Washington, D.C.

Redi Tlhabi was once accused by former South African President Jacob Zuma of being a foreign agent.

Al Jazeera her official employer in the US has a history of employing journalists who have even been exposed as terrorists and who physically carried out attacks against Israel on 7 October 2023.
