We look forward to this being extended further and to plans to improve access more generally for all disabled people. We'd like to thank all those who supported us to make this happen.
The Reverse the Ban coalition of 27 disability, age-related and allied organisations across the city welcomes the partial re-opening of the city's footstreets area to Blue Badge holders, thus overturning the human rights wrong that led to them previously being unfairly excluded.

Are we waking to a new day dawning ? We shall hopefully know by the end of the day. I am grateful to everyone who voted on this issue & particularly those who changed their voting intention specifically in recognition of the injustice being done to disabled people 🙏Solidarity ✊

Results are in! Thank you to all who supported the cause and voted in this vital election. This is a victory for disabled people! We look forward to working with the new administration in order to #ReverseTheBanYork 💙
Calling upon all citizens of York. Please use your vote today to elect candidates who have pledged to reverse the harmful, discriminatory blue badge ban. Our 3 years of exclusion will always be a stain on this city’s reputation, but you can be on the right side of history today !
My letter in today’s Press. Basically an amalgamation of last week’s tweets about the HoC debate, ending with a reminder that the will of the majority cannot override the needs of protected minorities because down that road lies authoritarianism. Still voting Lib Dem or Green ?
Big day. Rachel Maskell has secured a debate at 7pm in the House of Commons on reconciling human rights & counter terror. Disabled activists are doing media interviews so look out for us on TV & radio. Hopefully by #May4th there will be nobody left that is unaware of the BB ban !
Press comments is turning into an ableists convention as the election approaches. To those who say we don’t need blue badge holders ‘parking wherever they feel like’ it may surprise them to learn that NEVER was the case. The map shows the limited places we could park previously
Truly unprecedented. I challenge anyone to name an instance when 2 MPs from both sides of the aisle have come together to critique the actions of their own city’s council ! Did you get the very clear message being sent to you @CityofYork from the Minister as well as your MPs ? 🧵
With sincere thanks from the 27 organisations of @reverse_the_ban to @RachaelMaskell and @JulianSturdy for bringing this to the attention of Ministers. Thank you Rachael for such diligent preparation & fine speech that records the York situation. History was made yesterday ! 🙏
York, we are asking you to #VoteToReverseTheBan not just on #May4th but NOW for those receiving their postal votes. Our 2 banners are reunited once again having been lent to @labouryork & @ConservativesYO both of whom have committed to ending this injustice if elected.
We welcome Sir Keir Starmer’s support on his visit to York who described the Blue Badge ban as 'shocking' & pledged a Labour-run council would reverse it. Will other national political party leaders now do the same? https://t.co/N6cPSRnCjP
Really great team effort today from volunteers for @reverse_the_ban
All the residents of New Earswick,(originally built for chocolate factory workers by Joseph Rowntree & with additional social housing added since) will return home to our leaflet through the letterbox 👍 #May4th
