When writing code is cheap, the only remaining edge is software that is actually well done.
The bar just went up. The excuses just disappeared.
There used to be a margin for bad UX.
A margin for slow screens.
A margin for “we’ll fix it later.”
That margin is gone. There is no justification left for handing a customer a bad product.
This is the moat for the next few years: taste, care, and finish.
Not features. Finish.
Only a team that actually cares can produce that.
I don’t know how you measure “cares about the product.”
I don’t know how it looks on a résumé.
I don’t know how you interview for it.
I just know you can feel it in the software.
If you can care about the thing you are building, and about the person using it, a career in this field stays available.
If you are comfortable being a CRUD monkey who barely knows what the product does and never uses it, the future is not bright.
It is also our job to find something we can care about.
It does not have to be brilliant.
It has to be ours enough that we refuse to ship it half-dead.
When building an app is cheap, what is the remaining excuse for shipping something that feels unfinished?
I keep coming back to one answer: the team never cared.
Curious if that’s too harsh.
@thdxr UDP would also be nice (factorio server), not sure how difficult it is, but not many services have it.
Cool service, will probably replace my wireguard tunnel with it. It's you or cloudlare.
Thanks Dax
Why does Claude refuse to run sudo commands?
It loses me every time it doesn't do something I explicitly ask.
Gpt or Grok just do it. May warn me about it, but end up doing it.
I don't have access to the computer, Claude, that is why I'm using you to do it.
@GeoffreyHuntley The way that I got around this is that usually I am talking with Codex, with GPT 6.1 in Sol.
I have it set up in a way that whenever it needs to write code, it will call Claude with the Opus 5.5 but I type and communicate with Codex 98% of the time.
@theo I think it's time Theo. We need t3git.
It's going to be hard to replicate the social features and userbase, but it would be a major win to have a better UI and features built on top of GH.
@levelsio Set that device to use a tailscale DNS with an entry point in the US. Might work.
Also use a different assistant. I don't know it from the top of my head but home assistant mist support a costum voice assistant
The PR where something was implemented should be a better source of information. I'm exploring this now with an internal tool for ABsmartly that adds a bunch of information to the PR, like diagrams, videos and whatever media makes the PR easier to grasp, but also why the implementation is like that.
Anyone can ask the agent where something was implemented and get context.
