“The main practical task for most of us is not to give the Big Men advice about how to end our fatal economy - we have none to give and they wouldn’t listen - but to consider how we can live within it as little hurt and degraded as possible.” -C.S. Lewis
21 years is a long time.
I’m just a kid from Chicago who instantly knew this game was for me.
Today, as I prepare to hang up my gloves, I know this journey was never just about me.
THANK YOU - TO EVERYONE.
I think we need Niebuhr’s insights more than ever. In “Moral Man and Immoral Society” he pointed out that we always treat “our side” as purely good when in reality all groups are imperfect and given to unhealthy extremes .
Grateful for William C. Placher’s insights on Niebuhr.
Great line from William Placher’s “A History of Christian Theology” - Unitarians believe in the Fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man, and the neighborhood of Boston. #ChurchHistory#Theology
Thanks to @BacklistedPod I’ve been getting into Raymond Chandler. Just finished “The Big Sleep.” Full of great lines: “it seemed like a nice neighborhood to have bad habits in.” #RaymondChandler#books
@MLSTransfers@herculezg@ussoccer Completely agree! I have loved this team my whole life, but wouldn’t pay these prices if they were playing down the street.
St. Catherine’s in Chelsea, AL created a hiking trail which doubled the public hiking in their area. A great example of how the heart of the Church is at the edge of the community. https://t.co/9fedbMDxGw
I had a dream about the difficulty of finding a pastor for a church plant on the Moon. Either this means that I’m headed round the bend or this is the next level of work avoidance.
There are a lot of trauma symptoms that we’re familiar with, but sometimes I think we need to pay more attention to things like chronic cynicism, certainty, critique…things that feel powerful and perhaps even righteous in the moment, but which actually do violence to our souls.
