It's huge: 140 paragraphs, and almost 18,000 words - on an incredible array of subjects from the wars in the Middle-East, to AI, to agriculture.

I won't go into the details of it, if only because there is just an overwhelming amount of it, but the overall impression it gives is that this is what serious multilateral governance looks like - especially if you compare it to recent G7 summits, which only produce a handful of short reactive statements rather than anything resembling this kind of comprehensive institutional blueprint.

Here - from building alternative financial infrastructure to food security - you really get the feeling that, as difficult as it is with such a diverse group of countries, they're actually trying to build things and to answer the governance challenges of our age, many of which are ironically created by the G7 😅

Jay Tarriela is merely recycling his old smear tactics and making an issue out of nothing. China's position is clear and firm.

First, China has sovereignty over Nansha Qundao, including Meiji Jiao and Zhubi Jiao, as well as jurisdiction over the relevant waters. This position has ample historical and legal grounds and is consistent with international law, including the UNCLOS. China’s construction activities on its own territory are a legitimate right of a sovereign state and brook no interference by any outside force.

Second, the so-called South China Sea arbitration award is illegal, null and void, and China will never accept any claims based on that award. It undermines the international rule of law and distorts and abuses the spirit of the UNCLOS. The overwhelming majority of the international community understands and supports China’s position that disputes should be resolved peacefully through bilateral negotiations. The “14 countries”, cobbled together by the Philippines, in no way represent the international community.

Third, the repeated maritime provocations, initiated by certain individuals in the Philippines and based on the illegal award, not only undermine bilateral relations, but also threaten regional security and stability. China has been committed to managing differences through dialogue, but will never accept any form of blackmail or coercion.
