Trump tells Fox News that the US "sent a lot of guns to the Iranian protesters, we sent guns through the Kurds, I think the Kurds kept them."

Trump reportedly said the weapons were sent after the Iranian gov started killing protesters in large numbers. Not sure that makes a lot of sense since the Internet was completely shut down at the time, and the US had very limited insight into what was happening.

I suspect he misspoke: The weapons were sent through Kurdish groups BEFORE the January 8-9 clampdown.

Either way, this admission by Trump rewrites the history of these dark days.

My suspicion is that the US and Israel had armed specific groups that infiltrated Iran but could not operate until large protests had erupted. When that happened - both organically and with the encouragement of Reza Pahlavi - these groups were activated and began using systematic violence against the state apparatus as well as civilian targets (banks, mosques etc).

The vast majority of Iranian protesters had nothing to do with or even awareness of this US/Israeli armed group. They were protesting peacefully. But the Iranian government appears to have made little distinction between the two and killed armed and peaceful protesters alike on a large scale - probably around 7,000.

This is beyond absurd, and completely dangerous.

First of all, who are you even speaking to? Iran is effectively blacked out.

Second, just like during the 12-day war last June, Reza Pahlavi once again shows how completely detached he is from reality. He’s calling on people to go out and celebrate a national holiday while simultaneously asking Israel and the United States to protect them.

Protect them from what, exactly? From ongoing airstrikes? From the regime’s retaliation? What do you think is going to happen, that Trump and Netanyahu will call IRGC and say, “We’ve been bombing the hell out of you, but let’s pause so people can celebrate”? That the bombing will just stop? That the regime won’t take revenge on civilians the moment they gather in the streets?

While bombs are falling and security forces are tightening their grip on cities and streets, he’s telling people to light fires and dance. Encouraging civilians to expose themselves in the middle of a volatile and dangerous situation is not leadership, it’s irresponsibility.

This isn’t new. We’ve heard the same empty promises before, 100,000 Starlinks, tens of thousands of defectors. Tens of thousands were sent out to bullets, and none of it materialized.

You have to be either shameless or historically ignorant to believe the regime wouldn’t crack down brutally, especially after urging people into the streets under the illusion that they are protected.

This isn’t strategy. It’s fantasy, and dangerous fantasy at that.

But it gets worse: The "German" representative announces that Germany will start bombing Iran together with Israel and the US (this was days before the war started), and an elated Pahlavi welcomes it and says that it is important that the US and Israel are not isolated in conducting this "crusade."

Yes, Pahlavi approvingly calls the Israeli-US war on Iran a crusade...

(Incidentally, Pahlavi's handler is Justin Forsyth, a former British government official who later resigned from his post at UNICEF after admitting to inappropriate behavior with female staff...)
