Today, H.E. Amb. Maurice Makoloo made a courtesy visit to Cllr. Dr. Jacqueline McLaren, Lord Provost and Lord-Lieutenant of Glasgow, at her offices in the historic Glasgow City Chambers.

Meeting against the backdrop of the @Glasgow_2026 Commonwealth Games, which formally opened yesterday, 23 July 2026, Amb. @MMakoloo reiterated Kenya’s appreciation for Glasgow’s excellent preparations to host the reimagined Games, and thanked the Lord Provost for her leadership in this regard.

Their discussions further explored opportunities to deepen partnerships between Kenya and Scotland within the framework of the wider Kenya–UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030. Areas of potential cooperation discussed included, among other, sports development and major-event delivery; cultural and city-to-city exchanges; school, university and research partnerships; climate action and environmental protection; and the expansion of trade and investment relations.

In a particularly warm moment, Amb. Makoloo took the opportunity to introduce the Lord Provost to a few Kiswahili words:

On Friday, 3rd July, in continued commemoration of the first anniversary of the renewed Kenya–UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030, Amb. Maurice Makoloo and Amb. Matt Baugh, UK High Commissioner to Kenya, met and travelled together to Cambridgeshire for a series of joint official engagements with regional government representatives, business and community leaders, University of Cambridge faculty and students, and other key stakeholders.

Significantly, their travels began at King’s Cross and St Pancras International Station, a place of particular significance for the Kenya-UK partnership as it provides the template and inspiration for the Nairobi Railway City project, one of the flagship projects under the bilateral strategic partnership. Over the past year, the ambitious urban regeneration and transit-oriented development project has progressed steadfastly into its next phase of structured implementation.

The joint journey by the two High Commissioners reflects the true spirit of the bilateral partnership: learning together, building together and delivering together.

2026 TCS London Marathon: In Conversation with H.E. Ambassador Maurice Makoloo

On Sunday, the 26 of April 2026, the High Commissioner, H.E. Amb. Maurice Makoloo will be taking part in one of the world’s most iconic marathon runs - the 2026 TCS London Marathon!

As part of the journey, we intend to share short interview clips offering reflections from the High Commissioner on running, discipline, resilience, leadership, and the broader lessons that the marathon offers beyond the finish line.

The series of clips begins with a reflection by Amb. @MMakoloo on the meaning behind his run:

For him, each marathon carries a distinct purpose. This year’s London Marathon is dedicated to the men and women, both in Kenya and in the United Kingdom, whose daily work has helped grow and sustain the Kenya–UK relationship: on the farms, in factories, in shops, in offices, and across the many spaces where partnership is manifested 🇰🇪🫱🏾‍🫲🏼🇬🇧

Ahead of the 19th Ambassadors’ Conference, I visited Flamingo Horticulture in Naivasha at the invitation of Ms. @OliviaStreatfeild, Group CEO of @FlamingoGroup International.

What I witnessed was a compelling demonstration of how well-aligned #partnerships between government, private capital, and local communities translate into real economic opportunity. At Flamingo, #strategicinvestment converges with #innovation, #youthtalent, and #environmentalstewardship to deliver competitive world-class horticultural products for global markets.

Behind their every bouquet lies a broader dynamic ecosystem: Kenyan scientists, farmers, talented young innovators, and small-scale enterprises, all working in concert with a forward-looking investor under a supportive policy environment.

Flamingo’s ongoing USD 14 million expansion in Naivasha signals strong confidence in Kenya’s agricultural sector. The additional investment will further strengthen the horticulture value chain, create thousands of jobs, and expand Kenya’s export capacity. In a sector central to foreign exchange earnings and livelihoods, this is the kind of ambitious impact-at-scale envisioned by the Kenya–UK #StrategicPartnership.

Equally significant is Flamingo's deliberate prioritization of packed-at-source, Fairtrade-accredited, bouquet production, enabled by climate-smart technologies that respond directly to the evolving standards in key markets, particularly the United Kingdom. This welcome move harmoniously aligns with the targeted goals of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda #BETA

These encouraging outcomes reaffirm a simple proposition: a predictable and enabling business environment; where capital, markets, innovation, and policy alignment converge, remains essential to sustaining growth and expanding employment opportunities.

At a time when the world is navigating economic uncertainty, climate challenges, and shifting geopolitical dynamics, Kenya’s presence at such a high-level forum signals trust, relevance, and leadership.

We must appreciate the deliberate effort by H.E President William Samoei Ruto to position our country and indeed Africa within these influential spaces. These platforms are where partnerships are built, investments are attracted, and the future is negotiated.

This morning, alongside fellow African Permanent Representatives in New York, I had the pleasure of hosting a high-level interactive dialogue with Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The dialogue was convened in keeping with Kenya's long-standing goal of anchoring important discussions at the multilateral stage that directly advance the 2030 Agenda and Africa’s development priorities.

While the IAEA's global role in nuclear safety and security is well known, today’s exchange focused deliberately on the Agency’s development-facing work in Africa, and the often under-appreciated contribution of nuclear science and technology to sustainable development, including the work of the Agency in:
🔹 Improving energy access across Africa using accessible nuclear technologies;
🔹 Expanding access to cancer diagnostics and treatment under #RaysOfHope;
🔹 Strengthening food and nutrition security through #Atoms4Food;
🔹 Application of nuclear techniques in water resource management and climate resilience; and
🔹 Capacity-building and science-driven innovation across the continent.

I expressed my appreciation to DG @rafaelmgrossi for his development-oriented leadership at the IAEA and his willingness to engage directly and candidly with the African Group here in New York.

The @KenyaMissionUN will continue to avail itself, whenever opportunity arises, to convene inclusive and forward-looking conversations that strengthen multilateral cooperation and translate global expertise into real development impact for the African continent.
