In 30 years, big gains have been made for girls. Progress is possible. Our new report shows where we need to focus, reaching the poorest girls & where progress has been slowest to ensure every girl can learn, be healthy, safe, & shape her future #GirlGoals https://t.co/iCChki1BSo
In these hard times it was a joy to come together with so many incredible leaders and partners last week, to celebrate what has been achieved in just one year with #POWER4Girls, and to strategise about pathways to financing at-scale. To learn more: https://t.co/FbTSGsIQv4
In conflicts and emergencies, girls and women are often worst affected. Violence and displacement become widespread.
Education and healthcare are disrupted.
The risk of child marriage rises. Opportunities disappear. In times of crisis, girls’ futures are often pushed aside.
Across the world, UNICEF and partners are working to protect girls’ rights, supporting their safety, education and access to services that help them build their futures.
Happy International Women's Day! Grateful to all the women, girls & every person who has campaigned and given so much to win hard-fought gains for gender equality worldwide. We are climbing mountains together, on the shoulders of not just giants but millions of individual actions
In Lokoloko, silence is broken.

Children of adolescent mothers are more likely to be unvaccinated (‘zero-dose’) or under-vaccinated than adult mothers. We need a special focus on health for adolescent girls and for their children if we are to reach everyone https://t.co/7oFJJrgpOQ
Every child deserves a childhood. Yet 93 million girls are denied their rights in East Asia & the Pacific, married as children. Their odds of leaving school, teenage pregnancy & experiencing violence all increase. For every girl, a voice, choice & childhood #endchildmarriage
93 million girls in East Asia and the Pacific were married as children. One in 13 are married before 18.
Keeping girls in school, enforcing minimum-age laws on marriage and challenging harmful gender norms are essential to protect their rights, education and opportunities.
“The Dakar Declaration is not just a document - it is a moral call. Ghana is fully committed to ensuring that every girl can learn, lead, and thrive without fear, without limitation, and without discrimination” - read more about the Dakar Declaration here https://t.co/Z0etIQqqoC
Congratulations to Djibouti! 🇩🇯
The ban on #FGM is now formally enshrined in the Constitution (Art. 16).
This new clause explicitly prohibits #FGM, a monumental victory for the rights and dignity of girls & women. A crucial step to #EndFGM.

Super interesting LEAS session by @WBG_Gender on Inclusive Pathways for Out-of-School Adolescents. Hearing from @UNICEF's @rgrahamgoulder reviewing 30 years of data on adolescent girls' rights: https://t.co/OHw0VO4Bs5
The escalating violence in Al Fasher, Sudan, is extremely dangerous for the estimated 130,000 children who remain trapped, surrounded by heavy fighting, relentless shelling, and critical shortages of food, safe water, and medicine.
Children are at risk of being separated from their families, injured and exposed to continued grave violations of their rights.
We urgently call for an immediate ceasefire and safe, unimpeded humanitarian access to all affected populations. Civilians, including children, must be protected at all times. Those who wish to move to safer areas must be guaranteed safe passage, in line with international humanitarian law.
Those responsible for violations must be held to account.
Girls know what work - we need to get behind their leadership & their solutions. A smart move for domestic budgets, ODA & private sector finance is to prioritize investment in adolescent girls - as it would have a multiplier effect across communities and economies. (3/3)
Thank you @francediplo for hosting the important convening on #FeministForeignPolicy last week. It was an honour to speak on a panel with Minister delegate @CaroitEleonore, our Global Girls Advisory Group leaders Ines & Aya, @fmwangipowell & Anne Bideau. 3 key take-aways… (1/3)
Gender inequality is affecting adolescents & young people in deeply concerning ways, with profound effects on their well-being & future. Rather than being forgotten, they must be a priority. From child marriage to HIV infections, data shows we need a special focus on girls (2/3)
During last year’s #DayoftheGirl, @UNICEF launched the #GirlGoals global campaign to amplify the voices & responses of adolescent girls worldwide on 1 question:
'What do you want people around you to know about being girl?'
This is what girls said ➡️https://t.co/5sNWTsO7ln

Today we have witnessed a vile attack on our Jewish community on its holiest day.
We condemn whoever is responsible and will do everything within our power to keep people safe.
We stand with GM’s Jewish community at this time and will work through the day to support them. 🙏🏻
This #DayOfTheGirl, girls in West and Central Africa will make their voices heard at #GirlsSummitDakar2025.
Despite barriers, adolescent girls lead, create solutions and show the power of their ideas to improve the lives of children.
Here’s my message to them.
