“I wish we could return to our homes and that the displacement would stop.”
Nine-year-old Fatima and other children displaced in Lebanon by the recent war share their dreams and hopes with UNICEF’s Ted Chaiban.
An average of at least 19,000 girls and boys are now displaced every single day in Lebanon.
UNICEF is providing essential services for children on the ground, but what they really need is an end to the violence.
Violence against women is not a side issue. It is not secondary to policy debates or geopolitical tensions. It is the most urgent and pervasive human rights violation of our time, and eliminating it must be our most important objective.
#InternationalWomensDay#IWD2026#Equality
A belated Happy International Women’s Day, I guess.
Today is meant to be a celebration, but it’s impossible to celebrate when so many women and girls are still fighting for the most basic right: to live in safety, free from fear and #violence. #IWD2026
As long as women & girls experience violence, no country can truly develop. Violence erodes public health, fractures communities, weakens the human capital needed to rebuild communities and economies, and destroys the very foundation needed for peace, stability & progress.
Nearly 700,000 people – including about 200,000 children – have been displaced in Lebanon in just 10 days of war in the Middle East, according to UNICEF.
Food and fuel prices are surging as the conflict spreads across the region.

Everything must be done to prevent a further escalation in the Middle East.
I call on all sides to strictly uphold their obligations under international law, including the @UN Charter, protect civilians & ensure nuclear safety.
Let’s act responsibly & together to pull the region & our world back from the brink.
The UN education agency @UNESCO says that the bombing of a primary school during the US and Israeli military attacks on #Iran on Saturday constitutes a grave violation of humanitarian law.

When girls feel safe in every space, online and offline, they can learn, express themselves and become who they want to be.
Safety is more than protection. It gives them the confidence to explore opportunities and realise their potential.
All spaces should be safe for every girl. No exceptions. #NoExcuse
Unspeakable suffering in Tawila.
Over half of the fleeing survivors are children. One injured woman I met walked into the camp after surviving an attack, carrying her friend's starving child.
They're asking the world if help is coming.

Protecting children is our most sacred duty.
No girl or boy should ever be a victim of sexual violence — one of the most despicable violations of human rights.
Let us strengthen protection systems, support survivors, and confront impunity — wherever it hides.

The Adolescent Man Box Report underscores the importance of challenging harmful #norms and supporting #boys to develop more authentic, equitable, and emotionally healthy identities for their own wellbeing and for advancing #genderequality.
The Adolescent Man Box study conducted in Australia by @JesuitSocialSer offers critical insights for practitioners, policymakers and educators to inform programs & practices to prevent #violence + contribute to broader conversations about #genderequality. https://t.co/ROCmfORB3D
Conformity to Man Box norms is linked to poorer #relationship quality. Boys inside the Box are more likely to endorse or perpetrate #bullying, harassment, even intimate partner #violence. They often struggle to form close, supportive #friendships, as openness is discouraged.
The pressure to conform to Man Box norms can negatively affect educational attainment. Boys who feel compelled to “prove” their #masculinity may disengage from #school. These pressures can also lead to higher #dropout rates and lower #aspirations.
Boys inside the Man Box report higher levels of psychological distress, e.g., anxiety. They are less likely to seek help for #mentalhealth issues due to stigma around vulnerability. These boys are more likely to engage in risky behaviors to assert #masculinity or cope w/stress.
A staggering 90% of #women-led organizations in #conflictzones have been forced to cut or close programs due to reductions in U.S. assistance, highlighting the urgent need for sustained support to empower women leaders in crisis settings.
