So honored to receive this award from the NWA! It is such a great organization and I am happy to be able to be involved with so many wonderful people from across the Weather Enterprise.

@YouBetterYouBet@LockyLockerson You guys absolutely nailed the top of the draft and the discussion on today's betting trends was golden! Great info. Thanks!
Yes, this does fill in that gap between MCDs. We would love to have access to the type of internal chat that you are having at SPC. Let's use this as a prototype and get offices and SPC in the same room!
I sent several DMs, but I want to share more broadly. This effort is not designed to compete with SPC. They are world-class experts with meso-a. This is to supplement the local meso-a that has always been done at WFOs. It also provides more at-bats for forecasters alongside SMEs.
Thanks for the comments, Trevor! I will say that it is MUCH easier to testbed this type of project within a region first and then grow it from there. We have interacted with Southern/Eastern Regions, NWSH, SPC, etc. Don't believe that this will be CR initiative for long.
Love the RMA project! Mutual aid programs like this is the future of the NWS operating paradigm (IMO).
My only criticism is these programs should not be regional. SMEs exist across all regions and also outside the WFO level. #AMS2022
@TwisterKidMedia @WxLiz@ZombieTrev5k@keithsherburn@windbarb I know you all could help. :-) Keep in mind that this was a proof of concept and it could have ended up like the image below. I am really happy to hear of your and @wxLiz interest for sure!
@TwisterKidMedia @keithsherburn@WxLiz@windbarb@ZombieTrev5k Don't disagree with you at all, Rich. You all are the world-class experts at meso-a. One of the goals, and advantages, of this initiative is that it increases "at-bats" for field forecasters.
@WxLiz@windbarb@ZombieTrev5k We have had convos with @pmarshwx about this & how SPC might interface with the chat. We would love to have SPC drop in & share insights. You all are world-class experts with meso-a. Last year was a proof of concept & it was successful. It would be great if we could include SPC.
@WxLiz@windbarb@ZombieTrev5k Hi, Elizabeth! This does not replace what SPC provides. It is a compliment. WFOs have been doing mesoanalysis my entire career (~30 years). Local meso-a is nothing new. This is a way to leverage field expertise to assist WFOs and allow for more at bats and peer-to-peer learning.
Impressive high wind event underway from the Rockies through the central and southern plains. Here are the peak wind gusts (MPH) since Midnight. An incredible mix of mountain wave, gradient and severe thunderstorm winds are represented. #cowx#kswx#okwx#mowx#newx#nmwx#txwx
We spend an immeasurable amount of time discussing this topic as meteorologists. Getting people to act, or modify their behavior, in response to a hazard is a constant source of discussion & outreach education. The perfect forecast, or warning, means nothing if people don't act.

@OldM8sBakyrdTek@NOAANCEI Hey, Adam. Initial reports that I have seen are that it was "at least" an EF3. An expert QRT (Quick Response Team) will be arriving to look at the damage. I would not be at all surprised if the most intense damage ends up being rated as an EF4.
Before last night's tornado outbreak, the top five deadliest December's (since 1950) for tornado fatalities were:
1953 - 49
2015 - 26
1957 - 19
2010 - 13
2000 - 12
Afraid to see where this one ends up. Data downloaded from @NOAANCEI#tornado#kywx#mowx#arwx#ilwx
Here are the five warmest high temperatures in Kansas City on December 15th (1888-present) . The NWS forecast high temperature for Wednesday the 15th is 74ยฐF, which would shatter the current record high for the date. #mowx#kswx
