Quick recap from field suvey of yesterdays M5.8 earthquake in NV. no surface rupture observed after several transects across aftershock pattern. Lack of surface cracking in epicentral area. Minor bank failures, lateral spread, and liquefaction features along Walker river.
N. California has been feeling Quakey! A mag 7 occurred around 10:45AM local time, near the Mendocino Triple Junction- 3 tectonic plates (the North American, Pacific, and Juan de Fuca) meet. We didn't feel any shaking in Nevada, but the sensors did, see the wiggles here!
Come work with us! Reclamation is hiring 2 geologist positions in the engineering geology & geophysics group. DM me with any questions about working for USBR. Unfortunately these positions are only available to US citizens.

Locating earthquakes is a fundamental task in seismology with many important applications, but is not always as easy as it looks. Here we @NVSeismoLab published a new catalog of high-precision earthquake locations for Nevada and the surrounding region. https://t.co/Tb4Gx4tonf
We are hiring a new postdoctoral researcher at the NSL to help lead a NASA-funded project that aims to optimally combine large-scale, geodetic and seismic data to better understand earthquakes along the California-Nevada border. See full job details here: https://t.co/mEIqNcZxLJ
