A new study from England, #UK, has recorded zero deaths from #CervicalCancer among young women who were vaccinated against #HPV as girls.
Since @WHO made the call to action in May 2018, countries across the world are rolling out the WHO Global Strategy to Eliminate Cervical Cancer — by scaling up vaccination, screening and treatment.
And today, 165 countries have now introduced this lifesaving vaccine.
In fact, a single dose of the vaccine is now proving to be protective towards almost zero risk of cervical cancer.
When science, political commitment and dedicated health workers join forces, #HealthForAll becomes a reality.

WHO has released its first-ever set of comprehensive guidelines for the clinical management of filovirus disease which include all Ebola and Marburg diseases.
Ebola disease, and Marburg disease are serious, and often fatal. There have been 72 outbreaks of Ebola and Marburg diseases reported in Africa since 1967, when Marburg virus was first discovered.
These guidelines translate lessons learned from recent disease outbreaks into evidence-based, clinical recommendations to improve patient survival and outcomes.

Mr President, Health Minister @vicatallah, my deep gratitude for your leadership of the 79th World Health Assembly.
I very much appreciate the way you have led this Health Assembly with wisdom, a steady hand, good grace, a dose of humour and Dominican style. #WHA79

Hon’ble Minister Neesha Mehta delivered a keynote speech at the #WHA79 official event on “Cervical Cancer Elimination: Strengthening Health Systems & Accountability Toward the 2030 Targets”, co-hosted by Nepal and South Africa today.

“Reshaping global health: a shared responsibility” is the theme of #WHA79. What an honour it was to listen to Prime Minister @sanchezcastejon deliver a masterclass in exactly that: the conscience of shared responsibility, multilateralism, and solidarity.
Thank you, Prime Minister, for stepping forward — and for calling on the world’s leaders to join #Spain in putting humanity first.
"One who plants a tree, doesn't always sit in its shade" - excellent remarks by President @JDMahama at #WHA79 opening, with a strong call for political leadership and investment in health, based on our institutional mandates, and a new order rising based on partnership and agency, not aid.
Indeed, let us measure our success by a clinic not a conference. By a child in the Global South to enjoy the same chance of survival as one in the Global North.
My deep gratitude to the President for joining us to address the Assembly, but especially for walking the talk for #HealthForAll in Africa, and everywhere. Together, my brother!
Congratulations to Chile for becoming the first country in the Americas to eliminate leprosy disease.
#Chile joins #Jordan as the only two countries to have eliminated leprosy globally, demonstrating that with inclusive health services, integrated public health strategies, early detection and universal access to care, we can consign ancient diseases to the annals history.

.@WHO is proud to celebrate India and South Africa for making major progress towards cervical cancer elimination by making HPV vaccines available to girls.
#India has launched the largest free HPV vaccination campaign in history, targeting almost 12 million girls aged 14 every year.
#SouthAfrica is ensuring every girl between 9 and 14 receives an HPV vaccine.
I urge more countries to take similar steps to achieve the 90-70-90 targets set out in the @WHO Global Strategy to eliminate cervical cancer:
-90 percent of girls vaccinated;
-70 percent of women screened;
-And 90% of women with cervical cancer or precancerous lesions treated, all by 2030.
Two decades. 160+ countries. Proven safety.
Director General ICMR Dr. Rajiv Bahl reaffirmed that the HPV vaccine has been safely used worldwide for over 20 years and cannot cause infection. Mild side effects such as temporary redness or low-grade fever are rare, while serious adverse events are extremely uncommon.
In India, the vaccine has already been safely administered in the private sector. Now, under the Government programme, it will be provided free of cost after informed parental consent to all girls of 14 years of age, ensuring equitable access to life-saving protection against cervical cancer.
This is science-backed prevention in action, protecting girls before cancer can ever begin.

I commend Prime Minister @narendramodi and @MoHFW_INDIA for rolling out a nationwide HPV vaccination campaign to protect girls from cervical cancer.
@WHO is committed to working with all countries, through our cervical cancer elimination initiative, to ensure girls and women can live their lives free from this preventable disease.
A defining moment for India & a powerful signal to the world. 🌍🇮🇳 #HPVVaccination

The World Health Organization has recognized Denmark for eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis — a major public health milestone.
The validation marks an important step toward ensuring every child is born free of these infections.
Congratulations to Denmark on becoming the first country in the #EU to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis.
With this public health achievement, 23 countries and territories have now been validated by @WHO for the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis or hepatitis B virus, or certified on the path to elimination.
This milestone demonstrates that with strong political commitment and consistent investment in primary care and integrated maternal and child health services, countries can protect every pregnant woman and newborn from these diseases.
