Mary Kostakidis didn’t win her Federal Court case.
Nobody did.
Zionist Federation CEO Alon Cassuto sued her over two January 2024 posts that shared Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah telling Israelis they had no future and that the land from the river to the sea was for Palestinians only.
This week the proceeding was discontinued by consent, with no judgment and no costs order.
She calls that a withdrawal it’s really just PR .
He calls it objectives met. No he didn’t win either .
The court never decided whether the posts were unlawful. The posts from January 2024 are what the complaint was about. The man in the videos is Hassan Nasrallah, then-leader of Hezbollah.
Hezbollah is a listed terrorist organisation in Australia. She quote-posted and reshared his speech.
4 January 2024 her post:
The Israeli govt getting some of its own medicine. Israel has started something it can’t finish with this genocide. #Gaza
She was quote-posting this video caption from CensoredMen:
The leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, tells the Israelis they will never be welcome in the region.
“Here you don’t have a future, from the river to the sea the land of Palestine is for the Palestinian people, and the Palestinian people only.”
“You want to stay here? That’s very difficult.”
“If you want to be secure, you want to feel secure, you have an American passport go back to the United States, You have a British passport go back to the UK.”
13 January 2024 — she reshared another clip of the same speech. The court record quotes it as:
Nasrallah’s message to Israelis: “If you want to be secure and safe, you have a US passport, go back to the US. You have a British passport, go back to the UK. Here you don’t have a future. From the river to the sea, the land of Palestine is for the Palestinian people only.”
That is the whole complaint: those two posts.
Whether amplifying Nasrallah “no future here, go back to America or Britain, the land is for Palestinians only”
plus her line that Israel was “getting some of its own medicine,”
Was she simply being a journalist and reporting as she claim ? or something else ? You decide .
Folks forget there are humans on both sides of this tragic war , including roughly 3m children under 12 in both Palestine and Israel .
Calling for the destruction of an entire state, and amplifying a Hezbollah leader’s threats against Israel with no regard for what that would mean for Israeli children’s safety if Nasrallah’s plans came to pass, is extremist. It is also counterproductive to the safety of children on either side.
We need to mature as a nation.
Mature people do not scream for one another’s destruction.
They argue, they criticise governments, they mourn the dead and they stop short calling for the violent end of an entire country of millions.
The same voices that talk endlessly about colonialism are doing a kind of ideological colonising of their own: people with little lived experience of the region telling everyone else that an entire country should not exist.
It’s pretty odd to claim it’s journalism , it looks like radical activism , journalism gave you the platform for that activism you stopped behaving as a journalist a long time ago .
It is reckless, it is counterproductive, and it is immoral. Children on both sides pay for that kind of talk.
@MaryKostakidis you’re a destructive child grow up .
Proverbs 12:18: “There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
Amplifying a terrorist leader who tells millions they have “no future” and should leave is, are in scripture terms the sword-thrusts .
