Stay away from the people who trusted your abuser’s narrative about you without even bothering to ask you directly. They weren’t looking for the truth.
One of the most well-used weapons of a narcissist/psychopath/coercive controller is that of isolation of their target.
It is the cruelest form of non-physical torture.
The dark personality works hard to ensure the target loses connection and support from all key people in their world - family members, friends, colleagues, others, even their own children. Targets may feel so bereft they suicide.
The dark personality isolates the target by lying about the target, privately expressing concern for the target’s mental health and suggesting people stay away, provoking the target publicly so people feel uncomfortable and pull away, attributing their own nefarious qualities to the target and so on.
It is a masterful process of manipulation designed to cause destruction of another human being.
The real clincher is that it is difficult for victims to get support because others don’t understand the depth of bereftness they are experiencing.
Your truth doesn’t require their validation. The lie doesn’t become true because they insist on it. Your reality is real whether or not they acknowledge it.
Narcissists don’t help to help — they help to be seen helping.
They’ll swoop in with performative “kindness” or “concern” when it’s not really needed, often making things awkward or uncomfortable.
And If you don’t react with sufficient gratitude even when their “help” really only made you uncomfortable because it was obvious to you that it was performative, they’ll flip and call you ungrateful.
This isn’t concern or compassion. It’s manipulation disguised as goodwill.
That feeling of awkwardness is your gut telling you, “Something’s off here.”
You're not ungrateful — you're just not falling for the performance.
This tactic also serves their ego. They often want an audience, too — even if it’s just you — to witness them being “generous.” But the moment you don’t play along with the performance, you become the problem in their eyes.
We have all seen or at least heard about the "𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥" but Dr. Fiona Girkin speaks to this from a psychological perspective.
These predatory types are many times, beautiful, charming, and they can present as kind and collaborative, and they do so much damage in friend groups, corporate settings, and family systems.

You should’ve had a family who stuck up for you. You should’ve had some support when you were being abused.
Instead, the very people who are supposed to be there for you to protect you and support you were the ones abusing you and trying to gaslight you into believing you deserved it.
You were not the problem. You had some very dysfunctional family members.
A narcissist/psychopath is universally stunned & pathologically furious when a person they have tried to annihilate fights back.
It’s bad luck for them, because more and more of us are doing it!
Coercive Control is the underpinning of all abuse and domestic violence. 💜 This is a systems issue and affects many individuals whether it happens in a relationship, family, friend group, community or workplace.
There’s not just one targeted victim. 🎯

Malignant narcissists, psychopaths target people who are isolated or can be isolated. When you first meet someone, never tell them you’re estranged from family, lonely or have just moved. This increases the chances predators will target you sexually, romantically, financially etc
Narcissistic parents maintain control by keeping their children dependent.
As long as the child needs them, the child has to appease them—people-please, agree, flatter, and say whatever the parent wants to hear.
Independence is dangerous to a narcissist because it ends their leverage.
And the child who can’t be controlled, often gets destroyed.
