@LostTransport@Joanna__Hardy And the CPS struggles to meet it's disclosure obligations in time for a defendant's lawyers to be able to advise their client prior to the hearing. Both major parties are to blame because they chosen not to fund the system adequately when in power
@LostTransport@Joanna__Hardy The estate hasn't been maintained properly - meaning courtrooms and cells become unusable, the privatising of the system bringing defendants to court has meant that prisoners either don't arrive or are too late for their case to be heard. (One more below)
@soniasodha I don't see how a ban will work unless someone improves the age-verification system. Self-certification is easy to lie to. Teens are more tech aware than ever. They will soon find ways round it. And why are we encouraging parents to parent their children
@DeadlyLaw I remember being told on the 1st day of my training contract that the firm wasn't going to teach us about legal aid bcos law school had. The only time legal aid was mentioned at law school was a comment that it didn't exist!
@Supupyerbeer@Jebadoo2 There's no charge of terrorism available to prosecutors. It is merely an aggravating factor in sentencing and that's a matter for the person or persons carrying out sentencing not the jury
@BBCNews Perhaps what we should be doing is creating an age-verification system that doesn't rely on self-certification and would allow for true age-related protections for our young people
@CrimBarrister The policy demonstrates HMG's we know best attitude and you can't disagree with us. Not just in the policy but in the way @karlturnermp has been treated
@hundredfamilies@LucyGoBag@AgnesAyton Yet, as a user of mental health services, every practitioner I've dealt with says this at the start of every session with them. So it's not true to say it isn't known. It's just not acted upon. There's a difference
@Channel4News He might have mental health issues but he's still entitled to confidentiality, like any other adult. Would you want someone to tell your family about your health issues?
@Barristerblog I think the judge should have realised that there would be press interest in the case and prepared his remarks for immediate release. Would have prevented a lot of the ranting that's gone on
@thebobevans@michaelwhite And blood soaking into dark clothing in the dark. It's an understandable mistake that the retired officer will have to live with for the rest of his life
@neilcorcoran3@michaelwhite If you find the sentencing remarks from the judge online, you'll see the judge address this point. It was dark, he was wearing dark clothing and the officers couldn't tell from looking that he was bleeding from his chest. They listened to Digwa give his account and acted on it.
