Did they say, "Oh, what a terrible thing has been done to Afghanistan or Pakistan?" No, they applauded. They should applaud Israel for standing by those principles and implementing them.

Vanaf het allereerste moment voel je de zwaarte van Bibi’s positie. Hij vertelt hoe Israël, de enige Joodse staat ter wereld, op 7 oktober 2023 werd getroffen door een kwaad dat sinds de Holocaust zijn weerga niet kent.

Via Hezbollah, de Houthi’s en sjiitische milities in Syrië en Irak wilde Teheran een gecoördineerde aanval uitvoeren, die Israël in één klap van de kaart zou vegen. Hamas handelde te vroeg, met alle gruwelijke gevolgen van dien, maar wel had Israël nu de ruimte om zich te herstellen en een bredere vernietigingsaanval af te slaan.

De premier verwerpt de aanklachten van genocide als absurde leugens. Als Israël dat doel had, zou Gaza in één middag zijn vernietigd. In plaats daarvan stuurde het leger continu waarschuwingen naar Gazaanse burgers, terwijl Hamas hen als menselijk schild gebruikte. Toch wordt Israël in het Westen als dader afgeschilderd: een echo van eeuwenoude bloedlaster in postmoderne gedaante.

Zijn scherpste woorden zijn gericht tegen westerse leiders die capituleren voor Palestina-protesten en sociale media. Landen die ooit bondgenoten waren, spreken nu over erkenning van een Palestijnse staat, kennelijk als beloning voor antisemitische terreur. Een gevaarlijke en beschamende ontwikkeling, want dezelfde demonstranten die Israël verketteren, verbranden ook Britse en Amerikaanse vlaggen. Hun strijd richt zich immers tegen het hele Westen.

Toch klinkt er in Netanyahu’s stem geen wanhoop, maar vastberadenheid. Hij weet dat kracht respect afdwingt en dat Israël moet winnen. Want verlies betekent het einde, niet alleen voor Israël, maar voor een wereld die blind is geworden voor zijn eigen vijanden. Democratieën sluimeren vaak tot het te laat is. Israël kan zich een decadente houding niet veroorloven. Het vecht zonder uitweg, en verdedigt in dat gevecht vrijheid, toekomst en leven boven de dood.

Do you remember when Richard Dawkins, one of the most prominent atheists of our time, suddenly found himself defending Christianity.

He called himself a “cultural Christian” and openly admitted that he didn’t want to see Britain, or the West, become Islamic.

It was the realization that Western civilization was built on centuries of intellectual struggle, Greek philosophy, Roman law, the Judeo-Christian moral framework, the Reformation, the Enlightenment.

The freedom to doubt. The freedom to speak. The right to question sacred ideas without fear of death.

These aren’t just abstract values. They are the pillars that hold up everything from your freedom to publish a book to a woman’s right to walk down the street uncovered.

Dawkins, despite his atheism, understood that Islam is a threat to that entire project.

Because Islam doesn’t enter a culture to coexist. It enters to redefine it. It doesn’t see secular freedoms as neutral, it sees them as filth.

When the West, in its confusion and cowardice, opens the gates and says “All cultures are equal,” it invites a force that sees that very tolerance as weakness to be exploited.

Dawkins saw it. Many are starting to see it, and the West must act, if not to defend Christianity as dogma, then to defend the civilization it birthed, before it’s erased under the banner of submission.

Waar we mee geconfronteerd worden, is een nietsontziende dwarsdoorsnede van de penibele staat van Nederland. Een samenleving die versplinterd, gesegregeerd, stuurloos en richtingloos is geraakt.

We zagen schreeuwers op de Dam. Een rookbom richting de premier. Een nogal opgewonden, Engelssprekende jonge vrouw die hem, met gevoel voor drama, een neonazi noemt. Een stel mafketels die een speech willen verstoren.

Wat zich op 4 en 5 mei voltrok, had niets met oprecht protest te maken. Dit was georganiseerde haat. Een fascistoïde optocht van proglinkse activisten die, onder het mom van vrijheid, alles reduceren tot één obsessie: Israël moet kapot, Joden moeten daders zijn. Het ongekende leed van de Holocaust moet tegen iedere prijs worden uitgewist. Geen woord over Soedan, geen woord over Oekraïne. Geen énkele compassie voor wie dan ook buiten het antisemitische, ernstig verwrongen wereldbeeld.

Deze zogenaamde voorvechters van sociale rechtvaardigheid zien zichzelf graag als antiracisten en antifascisten, maar ontnemen ieder ander agressief het woord. Ze hebben geen enkele boodschap aan andermans ruimte, mening of rechten. Integendeel: deze sekte claimt moreel gezag, terwijl men elke vorm van vrijheid misbruikt om diezelfde vrijheid voor anderen in te perken. Deze figuren zijn geen erfgenamen van het verzet, zoals ze graag zouden denken, maar de ideologische nazaten van wat het verzet bestreed. Het narcisme en het volslagen gebrek aan zelfreflectie zijn misselijkmakend.

Ondertussen, in de Schilderswijk: 5 mei is daar gewoon business as usual. Geen énkele Nederlandse vlag. Geen stilte. Geen moment van bezinning. Alleen Palestijnse vlaggen. Een bewoner geeft aan dat hij niet eens wist dat het bevrijdingsdag was. Men heeft er simpelweg geen enkele boodschap aan. “Dat zijn dingen van Nederland.” Ja, het is best prettig wonen hier, maar wederkerigheid? Die is ver te zoeken. De respectloosheid druipt er vanaf. We worden nog nét niet hardop uitgelachen.

Vijf kilometer verderop: Nederlandse vlaggen. Twee minuten stilte. Dáár leeft nog de kern van wat Nederland ooit was. Gemeenschapszin. Gedeelde geschiedenis. Waardigheid. Beschaving.

Maar die beschaving wordt uitgehold. We leven in een land van parallelle werkelijkheden. Met buurten waar de staat zich terugtrekt. Waar de oorspronkelijke bevolking letterlijk uit wegvlucht. Waar andere culturen de publieke ruimte overnemen en iedere loyaliteit aan dit land ontbreekt. Wie hier leeft, leeft bewust niet met ons, maar naast ons. Met minachting voor alles wat onze voorouders hebben opgebouwd.

Deze dagen lieten pijnlijk zien wat er gebeurt als vrijheid nergens meer wordt begrensd. Waar rechten niet meer gebonden zijn aan plichten. Waar onze tolerantie wordt bedreigd door onze tolerantie voor intoleranten. We zagen het eerder. Eigenlijk valt er tachtig jaar later steeds minder te vieren.

I genuinely don't understand why some people are still bullish about LLMs.

I use GPT, Grok, Gemini, Mistral etc every day in the hope they'll save me time searching for information and summarizing it. They continue to fabricate links, references, and quotes, like they did from day one.

I ask them to give me a source for an alleged quote, I click on the link, it returns a 404 error. I Google for the alleged quote, it doesn't exist. They reference a scientific publication, I look it up, it doesn't exist.

Happens all the time.

Yes, it has gotten somewhat better in the past 2 years in that with DeepSearch and chains of thought about 50-60% or so of the references exist. By my personal estimate currently GPT 4o DeepResearch is the best one. Grok in particular often doesn't include references even if asked. It can't seem to link even to tweets. It's hugely frustrating.

Yes, I have tried Gemini, and actually it was even worse in that it frequently refuses to even search for a source and instead gives me instructions for how to do it myself. Stopped using it for that reason.

I also use them for quick estimates for orders of magnitude and they get them wrong all the time. One thing they do save me time with is unit conversion and collecting all kinds of constants. You'd think though that this shouldn't take a 100 million++ LLM to get done.

Yesterday I uploaded a paper to GPT to ask it to write a summary and it told me the paper is from 2023, when the header of the PDF clearly says it's from 2025. I don't even know what the heck is going on there, but intelligence ain't it.

I sense that a lot of people now think knowledge graphs will fix the LLM-issue, but no, they will not. They cannot.

Even in the case that knowledge graphs would prevent logical inconsistency 100%, there are a lot of text-constructions that are perfectly logically consistent but have zero relation to reality.

Companies will keep pumping up LLMs until the day a newcomer puts forward a different type of AI model that will swiftly outperform them. On that day, it will become apparent that a lot of companies have been hugely overvalued. It will be a very bad day for the stock market.
