In the stormy sea we're sailing through right now, @staratlas remains SOLID, guided by its North Star: C4 and @ZinkSVM
With over 7-800 daily active players and consistently more than 1 MILLION transactions per day, Star Atlas doesn’t flinch.
While everything else shakes, it keeps sailing straight. This is real Web3 gaming that stands tall.
Despite what people say about Web3 gaming never coming back...

A Solana gaming story that shows how challenging on-chain gaming really is: @staratlas 👇
• 2020 - the vision
AAA game: a massive on-chain space MMO
not just a game, but a full sci-fi metaverse with ships, factions, economy, and player ownership
• pre-launch - foundation
led by @at_mwagner (not from traditional gaming)
ambition was enormous from day one
• 2021 2022 - hype
NFT ships generate millions
team scales aggressively → ~235 people at peak
• 2022 - shock
FTX collapse hits hard
~$15.5M lost from treasury, plus other major damage from the same period
• 2023 - reality
multi-million monthly burn
AAA scope proved too heavy to sustain
→ layoffs ~120 people cut (~73%)
→ team goes from ~167 → ~45
• 2023 2024 - pivot
focus shifts to survival + shipping
SAGE (on-chain gameplay)
mobile app
economy first
at times in October 2023, it reached ~15% of Solana daily transactions
• 2025 today - rebuild
SAGE Labs stays live
Holosim adds another playable layer
the product becomes more real, even if slower than the original dream
• ahead - direction
C4 and Zink now look like the next big steps
focus is on cheaper gameplay, deeper systems, and the next major releases
building games is hard
building AAA games is harder
building them on-chain is a different level entirely
many would have walked away
credit to Star Atlas for still being here, still building, and doing it the right way
hopefully the future of Solana gaming is built by teams like this 🎮

I finally got around to playing the @staratlas Shooter game today and I was mostly pleasantly surprised. I will now write out my full, unfiltered review of the game.
Also, I am not being paid for this, I now realise most of my TL was :P 👇
First some quick notes. I was playing on North American servers since Asian servers were empty, being from Aus my ping was obviously probably 200+. This did affect my performance but I am excluding anything it might have impacted for my feedback.
Now lets start with the positives:
The Arena is visually stunning, and the characters look pretty cool as well. There isn't a whole lot of cover on the map but I still enjoyed the overall map layout as well. Looking forward to seeing future maps come out for this game.
Secondly, the aerial movement was actually really awesome. I love OTG movement, but something about the simplicity of this one makes me enjoy it better than movement I've used in most other games. Even with the slight bugginess of my high-ping connection, the movement felt reliable, and intuitive at every point. The team should be super proud of this.
Another positive were the guns themselves. Shooting people was hard which I'll touch on in a moment, but each gun felt unique, interesting and fun. I really hate it when they all feel samey, so they've done an epic job here.
I will cover the negatives now, but I must admit that I had a lot of fun playing this version of the game and will continue doing so in the future, but they have a lot to fix.
Firstly, the map is way too big. I think the movement feels perfect but that means the map is too large. Even adding cover elsewhere in the world would go a long way. I like the multistory design but I can hit the centre of Nuketown 3x faster.
Idk if they have NFTs or what, but P2W players having tiny ass characters is outrageous and dumb. It ruins the entire experience of the game when your opponents are the size of a pea. Now having your NFTs and ownership matter is awesome, and having unique aliens is awesome, but having them this small simply detracts from the game way too much. Half them at half the height of a human and its not nearly as wild.
Now here is my more personal gripe. In Call of Duty, Gun Game is my favourite game mode hands down. The problem is the Devs of Star Atlas don't understand it much at all. More difficult guns go at the back end of gun game...
The starter gun for this game mode is absolute trash, it takes like 3 years to spin up. Which means that in a 1v1 literally every other weapon just wins. It also has terrible benefits for this massive tradeoff since the magazine is tiny asf. Put the 3rd weapon first, then maybe the shotgun, then this weapon, then sniper, then pistol etc. Maybe they mean to buff that starter gun idk, but its just shit asf, especially when you tryna hit marbles flying around.
To get nitpicky, sliding in the game costs way too much fuel. You can really only do it twice in a row, and it should be 3-4 times, but its not a big deal.
Anyways I think they will probably fix a lot of this stuff pretty quickly so I'm excited to play the game more and future iterations, and if Asian servers have players I can't wait to truly test my skills against other players.
Overall one of the better experiences I've had in Web 3 so I look forward to future updates.
