🇵🇰 “A Coup Dissguised as Emergency": Pakistan suspends Imran Khan's party's provincial government
President Asif Ali Zardari declared a state of emergency on Sunday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a northwestern province bordering Afghanistan and the only one governed by Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The order removed its chief minister and cabinet, and a federally appointed governor will run the province for an initial six months. Islamabad accuses the provincial government of failing to confront militant attacks.
The move came a week into a PTI march on Islamabad demanding Khan's release. The army was authorized to deploy across the province, and phone and internet service was cut in the provincial capital, Peshawar, and in Swabi, according to local media.
PTI says ousted Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has been detained. A party spokesperson called the move "a coup disguised as emergency."
An additional potentential source of instability and violence in #Pakistan: the suspension of the elected provincial government and the imposition of federal emergency rule in #KhyberPakhtunkhwa. Pakistan's crises deepen.

Pakistani military has removed an elected provincial government and suspended the Pakistani constitution in almost the quarter of the country because they were protesting to free Imran Khan. This is what just happened in Pakistan.
As the military removes the one elected government in Pakistan, a periodic reminder that both @commonwealthsec and @EU_commission@EUPakistan colluded with the military junta in suppressing reports on the rigged 2024 elections. Madam @vonderleyen recently spoke of “shared values” after meeting PM @CMShehbaz and @SGCommonwealth loves to throw out the red carpet for @MIshaqDar50 whenever he holidays in London (which is a lot).
To justify the "state of emergency", the military will have to orchestrate some bomb blasts and terror attacks in the next few days. My condolences to everyone who dies in those, your children will have to die for Asim Munir's political maneuvering.
Still no reason as to why they’re incarcerated. Please turn your attention towards Pakistan. It’s currently a state of chaos, with violent, vindictive criminals in charge.
They only fear foreign intervention. People within Pakistan are oppressed, if they speak out, they put their families in life threatening danger. @andyburnham@Ed_Miliband, I implore you to take a stand. Urge this establishment to listen to reason and free those unjustly incarcerated.
"I’m sick and I was stopped at Attock Bridge for two and a half hours. For God’s sake, please at least let sick people pass. You cruel people, we are your own people too".
An elderly man with breathing problems is being treated cruelly.
The regime’s preparations for our protest. Spikes being applied on bridges and roads. Making regular citizens daily life even more difficult. Now let’s see how long they can keep them there. Their own failures have made them more afraid then ever.
Pakistan’s entire foreign policy under this regime is to find any and every speaking platform to butter up President Trump for a simple pat on the back.
Zero on policy, and even lower on self-respect and dignity.
Sad for a country of 250 million people to be led by this absurdity.
“Television news channels avoid using Khan’s name on air, referring to him only as the “founder of the [opposition] Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf [but] across the country, Khan’s image is plastered on the backs of trucks and rickshaws, and his prisoner number — 804 — adorns roadside stalls.
AI-generated videos of him addressing his followers proliferate on TikTok and X.
He is widely believed to be the country’s most popular figure, and would handily win a freely contested election.” - The @FT reports from Pakistan.

🚨🇵🇰 Videos just dropped of police raiding the homes of Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders (Khan party) in Sialkot.
What is this madness?
WTF is happening in Pakistan and why is nobody saying anything?

These are not just any criminals. These are the people in charge of Pakistan.
This is how they’ve abducted my family members. Masked, armed men dragging innocents from their houses and taking them to unknown locations.
There is little choice left for the people of Pakistan.
Either remain silent while their chosen leader is imprisoned. Whilst his family is detained, his party is suppressed and justice is denied - or come out peacefully and exercise their fundamental right to protest.
You can arrest families and threaten people with violence. But you cannot imprison 250 million Pakistanis or crush the will of a generation.
No regime is more powerful than its people. The world must watch as the people of Pakistan come together to demonstrate their plea for justice, even in the face of threats of violence.
Inshallah, Pakistan’s future will be decided by its people, not by criminals who rule through fear.
Members of former prime minister Imran Khan's family, including his three sisters, as well as activists from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been arbitrarily detained.
The targeting of his family and PTI party activists is a flagrant violation of their rights to liberty, freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. Such actions speak to the severity of the current restrictions in Pakistan.
Amnesty International calls on the Pakistani authorities to immediately release Imran Khan’s relatives and PTI workers, who have been targeted simply for their familial ties, political affiliation and plans to protest.
🚨🇵🇰 BREAKING:
Imran Khan’s family has just released a statement on the detention of his sister, Aleema Khan, and the police operation that followed at their family homes in Lahore.
According to the family, Aleema left home on Sunday and NEVER returned...
Her car was later found at a police station, before they learned she had been DETAINED under Pakistan’s Maintenance of Public Order law.
Police then surrounded the family homes before launching a MASSIVE overnight raid, during which Imran’s other sisters, Uzma Khanum and Noreen Niazi, were detained alongside several relatives and staff.
The family alleges officers kicked down Uzma’s bedroom door, dragged staff from their quarters, and detained family members before taking them away in an armored police vehicle...
They further allege that 20+ officers entered an upstairs section where Aleema’s daughter-in-law was alone with her daughters, aged 2 and 7, attempted to arrest her, and later took her and the frightened children around the house to identify CCTV cameras and recording equipment, which officers proceeded to destroy.
The family says Uzma and Noreen were ultimately separated from the others and transferred to jail, while relatives were given ZERO information about where the sisters had been taken... lawyers and family members have subsequently been denied access to them.
The operation came days ahead of PTI’s planned Sept. 27 March on Islamabad, as Imran remains imprisoned; his sisters had been prominent public links between him and the outside world...
Once again, the Khan family has suffered OUTRAGEOUS human rights abuses that the international community needs to URGENTLY look at!!!

The sister of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been arrested at her house in Lahore, ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Long March on September 27, according to a PTI Punjab spokesperson.

My mother, Aleema Khan, was abducted after leaving home this morning. Our family has had no contact or news of her whereabouts. She is on bail in all cases against her in Lahore. We demand the government immediately disclose her whereabouts and ensure her safe return.
@Aleema_KhanPK
Today, my aunt, Aleema Khan, has been abducted by police in Lahore. Our family has been told nothing about where she has been taken. Her family and lawyers cannot reach her.
This is the behaviour of a fascist government - abducting people, terrorising families and trampling human rights, due process and the rule of law while pretending to stand for democracy.
First they imprisoned my father. Now they are coming after his family.
We demand immediate access to her for her family and lawyers, full disclosure of where she is being held, and her immediate release.
The world cannot keep looking away from what is happening in Pakistan.
BREAKING:
Pakistani military has abducted Imran Khan's sister to put pressure on him to cancel the 27th September March by PTI. Sources have just confirmed to me that Imran Khan was offered that he will be shifted to Shifa hospital and Bushra bibi would be shifted to Bani Gala if the the movement was called off, a deal that Khan declined -- culminating in his sister's abduction.
