I help run a discord group for young adults (18-33) with #LongCovid and #MECFS, and we're looking for new members. It's a really lovely little community - we've been going since late 2021. DM me to get a link to join. Please retweet and share widely!
"The most important [thing] for me, and I think for my brother, is that his death won't be used to kill innocent people" - Noi Katsman after having to bury his brother, Chaim.
More mass murder will not make anyone safer. U.S. and Israeli politicians, stop weaponizing our grief.
@SickPatato check out rccx theory. whether the mechanism is correct or not, there is a clear association between neurodivergence, connective tissue disorders, and postviral illness
@SPRH_2020 also the ACT UP historical archive has some cool primary sources: https://t.co/1EQ4Ocv0Ck
NYT article by David France, about the impact on american organizing: https://t.co/HKb7uUdt5H
i've been immersing myself in a lot of ACT UP material recently, and I have a few basic observations relevant to #LongCovid and other complex chronic illnesses.
0. We need to organize. In the broadest coalition possible (#MECFS, #Lyme, #EDS, #POTS, #MCAS, etc).
@SPRH_2020 How To Survive a Plague was my first exposure to ACT UP when it came out, and it moved me, but I'd start with Schulman's film and approach How To Survive a Plague with a critical eye towards how it highlights individuals over the collective.
@mileswgriffis @CDCgov also this whole 'persistent symptoms' thing is such bullshit. makes people think long covid is just like, continuing to be congested or tired.
8. We need to learn from people who are doing / did the work. #MEaction, #ACTUP, Peoples Health Movement, 19th century socialist sanitary reformers, and other less health-related movements.
