If being Impossible to age in the flimsy cardboard packaging without imparting an aftertaste wasn’t bad enough, the macabre medical images on a luxury product compare only to the horrors of late term abortion.

Even the UK didn’t fuck this up as badly as Canada. England kept a cigar exemption because they understood the “hypothetical teenager” wouldn’t be persuaded to stop buying cigars through packaging changes - because teenagers don’t buy cigars.

The coffered ceiling with its full entablature is magnificent. The entablature is made up of three elements - the architrave, the frieze, and the cornice. You can imagine that ornate Renaissance Revival millwork of this era was incredibly difficult, time consuming, and expensive to produce by hand. With innovations in CNC machining for wood and 3D printing for plaster mouldings, right now it is possible to create similar complex ornamentation for a fraction of the cost, and I hope for a reasonable chance this could contribute to a future revival of architectural beauty.

Looking at the skylines of Shenzhen and Chongqing i can’t help but think of Blade Runner. It’s amazing what’s possible when a society is set up for manufacturing.

Europe is struggling not being a major producer, but still has managed to maintain its unbelievable inherited beauty.

Dubai and Doha have built marvels from desert oil & cheap indentured labour.

Of course, Canada is set on doing the opposite of what it should be.

The space could have been amazing. An opportunity for aesthetics comparable to the New York Palace Cafe in Budapest - or Cafe Pushkin, Moscow… maybe Cafe Imperial in Prague. But no. That beautiful space was stripped of its soul, damned to be another minimalist contemporary cookie cutter restaurant. A whale hanging from the ceiling and TVs everywhere for sports. Montreal is the only place in this country with any character. Canadian contemporary interior design is a reflection of our decline.
