@alexbud22 The litter and trash are described so thoroughly that the imagery is extremely clear in the readers' mind. This is probably an attribute of Locke's writing for the screen!

The setting in the novels adds to the mystery. The characters have distinct ways of speaking. This includes certain inflection on words and colloquialisms. We also can see this from the food that they eat and the way they describe society, the fact that there are racial tensions

This novel started off very slow for me. While I enjoyed the intentions of the prologue there were a lot of characters being introduced. I think Locke did a good job setting up the fears that exist in the town and how racism affects the people. I think the story is interesting

"I don’t think readers are always mean to connect with characters. Sometimes we’re just supposed to be impacted by them" In this review of Locke's book it contested some of the difficulties within the novel. It said that its concept was good but, overall, it was lacking something

And that it was hard to follow along with the characters because there were so many of them. I am still looking forward to reading this novel but, I am worried that I will not be as invested in this story the way that I have been with other books this semester #writingabouttexts

I love, love, love the way that Cole writes. The first 3 pages were really slow for me to get through (lol) but, after getting into the texts I really like Cole's writing style, character development, and plot. It is super complex. #writingabouttexts
