Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) works at the greenfield Machilipatnam Port are being carried out to strengthen soft, water‑logged marine soils so they can safely support heavy port infrastructure like yards, roads, and storage facilities.
PVDs are thin synthetic drains inserted deep into the ground to create vertical paths for pore water to escape, which speeds up consolidation and settlement that would otherwise take many years.
