New Evidence has emerged in the case of Dr. Dennis Masoba Nyambane, the Kiambu County surgeon currently detained over the alleged murder of his wife, Mary Mwende Mutie.
The evidence, comprising photographs and text message exchanges shared by a close colleague, suggests that the doctor was himself a victim of prolonged physical and emotional violence in the months leading up to the tragic incident.
According to a fellow surgeon, the revelations have reignited debate around reactive abuse, a term used to describe a situation where a person subjected to sustained provocation, manipulation, or violence eventually reacts emotionally or aggressively.
According to the evidence, in May 2026, Dr. Nyambane was allegedly assaulted with a hammer by his now-deceased wife.
Photographs of his injuries have surfaced, showing visible trauma.
Text message exchanges shared to the colleague reveal the couple allegedly had a pattern of emotional manipulation, intimidation, and financial demands.
The messages also indicate that the wife allegedly claimed to be pregnant and requested money for ultrasounds and supplements.
However, a postmortem examination has confirmed that there was no fetus in the uterus or fallopian tubes, and the uterus showed no signs of recent pregnancy.
Dr. Nyambane, a consultant general surgeon attached to the Kiambu County Government, was arraigned on August 10, 2026, and detained to allow investigators to complete their probe.
The court also ordered that he undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
